How to make my second CD-writer to be seen in boot

Recommended Posts

I got 2 HDD's and 2 CD-rom/writers (1 rom 1 writer)

In my boot I got selected auto from BIOS

Then when pressinf F8 and going to boot menu I got:

1.Floppy

2.HDD (my master HDD)

3.HDD (my slave HDD)

4.CD-ROM

When I tried to bot from my cd-writer it didn't done anything and after a time it automaticaly booted the windows.

The CD-ROM is TEAC and it is Master

The CD-Writer is LG and it is Slave.

How can I make the CD-Writer be selectable in Boot menu?

The boot as I said it is set on auto and the boot order is:

First:Floppy

Second:HDD

Thrid:CD-ROM.

My motherboard is a SIS735 (realy old one)

First thing is to check in the bios to see if the cd-writer shows up in the ide device list. It shouldn't matter when booting if it is master or slave on the ide channel. Then go back to your boot sequence in the bios and set your first boot device as the cd-writer. Some cd-writers do have a problem being a slave drive you may have to set it as master on the ide channel that it is on. First things first see if you can find it when you change your boot sequence.

This may differ from MoBo to MoBo, but it's most common that the Primary master is a HDD in the end of the IDE cable (gray end socket)..

Then the Primary Slave on the same cable (middle socket)..

This cable is then connected to IDE1 on the MoBo..

Next cable has lets say 2 CD-ROMs..

Secondary Master in the end of cable (gray socket)..

And secondary Slave on the same cable (middle socket)..

This cable is then connected to IDE2 on the MoBo..

And remember to set the jumpers right..

If Master, set it to master..

If Slave, set it to slave..

This may not be correct for your MoBo, but whould most common be the best way to fit it..

Both thinking about the location of the drives in the case and cable length, and that you shouldnt have a CD-ROM and HDD on the same cable..

If you try to burn a DVD with HDD and DVD-ROM on the same cable, it will cause a very slow data transfering speed..

And after all is well.. Be sure DMA is turned on..

The Floppy drive is not an IDE device.. It's a it uses FDC1 cable, and the red line on the ribbon cable must be aligned with pin-1 on both the FDC1 port (on MoBo) and the floppy connector..

And remember.. Use a BOOT-able CD when trying to BOOT with CD..

Also, try changing the BOOT order like this:

1 Floppy Drive

2 CD-ROM

3 Hard Disc Drive
