newsposter
Is there any established way to completely deinstall all multi-media support, clean out the registry, and then reinstall MM support?I'm looking for a known-good way to clean out everything except for directX and WMP 10.This is for XP SP2.thanks Edited June 22, 2005 by newsposter
djbe
Have you tried nLite? You can remove lot's of things with it.(dunno if it's possible) You could remove all codecs, and well, maybe all built-in drivers... But then you'll have to add them again, and probably they will be the same drivers Also, you could try windows xp 'N', it comes without WMP10 and maybe some other files. newsposter
ThanksI'm talking about performing 'surgery' on an already-installed and running XP SP2 instance, not prepping a new /i386 for install. djbe
Hmmm,There is no nLite for an already installed windows XP. And removing files here and there is really dangerous, because you could end up with an unbootable installation. Plus, removing files isn't that easy, because A LOT of them are in use by the system/programs. And there is also WFP making it difficult.
