Don't want to hijack the thread, but there is this other one, from which is derived the version that FDV uses in his "Remove IE" setup:

Alternately, instead of hacking the SFC.DLL file, you can leave it alone and simply empty out the list of protected files. You do this by downloading this file and replacing the one in your i386 directory. It's a version of SFCFILES.DLL that is empty. I got the idea here, but there were several errors in the approach, so a programmer friend re-wrote the DLL for me. Here is the source. In theory, this should work for all future Service Packs, and probably for Windows 2003 as well. It works for XP.

The approach is very interesting, as it simply leaves WFP enabled, but with an empty list of files to be protected.
