Never seen before - Problem

Recommended Posts

I've done many many installs without a problem thus far.

Now I'm using a Dell 8500 Laptop with BIOS A06.

When setup reaches the 35 minute mark, I get the following message.

8500b.jpg

I have no idea what it means. I have 60 gigs free disk space and it's the only partirion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Josh

Top of 4th paragraph - error msg - have you option to disable bios caching or shadowing inc video-bios shadowing as well if available? As this would cause this halt and manifest itself as shown.

@dlf: this always stands there and is no real help. the important thing is the sys file that caused the crash (portcls.sys in this case).

boooggy mentioned it belongs to a soundcard driver so try another driver or leave it out if it is not a driver shipped with windows.

There's a huge topic about problems with portcls.sys in the Device Drivers forum.

I'm assuming you've integrated SoundMax drivers into your install? According to that topic you have to use the SoundMax drivers from the manufacturer, instead of the general SoundMax drivers, because the general driver doesn't recognize all SoundMax chips, thus resulting in this error.
