XP problem with opening folders

Which of these actions causes a new window? (make sure these are folders and not drives)

(1) With an explorer window on the screen with the tree view on the left visible, selecting a folder from the tree

(2) With the tree visible, double-clicking on a folder on the right pane

(3) With the tree visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Open"

(4) With the tree visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Explore"

(5) With the tree NOT visible, double-clicking on a folder on the right pane

(6) With the tree NOT visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Open"

(7) With the tree NOT visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Explore"

And I guess I should ask... What version of Windows are you using?

(1) Just the folder contents are displayed on the right.

(2) A new windows opens with the contents

(3) A new windows opens with the contents

(4) The folder contents are displayed on the right.

(5) A new windows opens with the contents

(6) A new windows opens with the contents

(7) A new windows opens with the contents, with the tree on the left side

My Windows version is XP SP2.

That's pretty much what it does on my pc (XP Home XP2) when I import your *original* reg file. Did you try taking out the default value under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell" ? When I did that with your reg file, it fixed the problem.

> On mine, it breaks folders completely!

Correction: I think I typed it wrong when I tried it. I found the /VA switch is supposed to delete all values under Folder\Shell, so you can try it safely. It asks you anyway.
