azagahl
Is it safe (or wise?) to install specific USB drivers after the generic ones are installed?
MDGx
Is it safe (or wise?) to install specific USB drivers after the generic ones are installed? If you are referring to the ones installed by 98SE2ME into %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS , it should be safe.Notice that Maximus Decim drivers now install USBMPHLP.PDR, USBAUTH.SYS + USBNTMAP.SYS files from WinME.If u plan to install both, please do it in this order:1. Native USB Drivers2. 98SE2MEbecause 98SE2ME overwrites some of these files with WinME versions. These are the files installed by 98SE2ME into %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS from WinME Setup CD:1394BUS.SYSDBCLASS.SYSDBFILTER.SYSDRMK.SYSHIDCLASS.SYSHIDPARSE.SYSHIDVKD.SYSMSPQM.SYSNTMAP.SYSOPENHCI.SYSPORTCLS.SYSREDBOOK.SYSSBEMUL.SYSSBP2PORT.SYSSBP2SCAN.SYSSWMIDI.SYSTDI.SYSUHCD.SYSUPDATE.SYSUSBAUTH.SYSUSBCCGP.SYSUSBD.SYSUSBHUB.SYSUSB8023.SYSUSBCAMD.SYSUSBCAMD2.SYSUSBINTEL.SYSUSBNTMAP.SYSUSBPRINT.SYSUSBSCAN.SYSUSBSER.SYSUSBSTOR.SYSWDMFS.SYSWMIDRV.SYSWMILIB.SYSand these WinME hotfixes from MS web site [newer than the ones from WinME CD]:KMIXER.SYSOHCI1394.SYSRT.SYSUSBAUDIO.SYSAlso, if u want/need to install proprietary/3rd party drivers specific only to a particular device, make sure you do that only after u install (1) Maximus Decim Native USB AND (2) 98SE2ME.PS: I've noticed that the USBMPHLP.PDR file used by Maximus Decim is slightly different [when compared in a hex editor] than the 1 from WinME setup CD [English US anyway]. He probably "modded" it to make it work with Native USB 2.0.So if u install Maximus Decim USB 2.0 first and then 98SE2ME, make a backup of USBMPHLP.PDR [found in %windir%\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS], and then put it back into %windir%\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS after u finish installing both.Hope this helps. eGo®Z
What would be the problem with using nusb21 on non-english versions of Windows 98 SE ?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>it contains some language specific exe, dll and hlp files:USER.EXE,SYSTRAY.EXE,QFECHECK.EXE,HOTPLUG.DLL,ADVPACK.DLL,HARDWARE.HLP,QFECHECK.HLPand of course all of 'em are having the last file versions.that means if U'll install uSP2.x(Your language version) and NUSB2.x in order below, U'll have a good results:1. NUSB2.x English2. uSP2.x Your language version (it will prompt to replace the English files with the same ones in Your language version)Any other case: store mentioned files before install NUSB and restore 'em later.Be sure Your stored files have the same (or later) versions. eGo®Z
what happens if I don't remove all drivers (if I forget one, etc)??<{POST_SNAPBACK}>in some cases U can get a BSOD,it is highly recommended if U have installed prior version of NUSB (1.0-1.3),and, of course, few drivers intended for same device, can conflict among themselves
