Possible Additions For The Next Major Version

I wasn't clear in my subject for this post but I was suggested that this might be added to the next major version of the Unofficial 98SE Service Pack.

There's a page on the Microsoft site that offers downloads to "tweak" IE5...

Web Accessories for Internet Explorer 5

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previo...ss/default.mspx

It's an old page but the downloads still work, even with IE6.

There's 4 downloads on the page. The Wallpaper download is useless, but the other three add really useful functionality to IE...

Web Accessories for Internet Explorer 5

• Open Frame in New Window

Tired of HTML frames boxing you in? Ever wish you could see a page without all those annoying sidebars? Now you can! Just right-click anywhere in the frame you're interested in, and select Open in New Frame.

• Quick Search

This Web Accessory lets you reach the search engines of your choice faster than ever. For example, typing "av ActiveX" into the address bar launches a search with Alta Vista on the keyword "ActiveX." To activate this feature, select it from the links bar and then click on the "Save" button.

• Zoom In/Zoom Out

Get up close and personal. This Web Accessory lets you zoom in and out of any image on a Web page. Just right-click on it and select Zoom In or Zoom Out.

• Image Toggler

Now you can turn off images for extra speed and turn them back on again even more quickly and easily. Simply look for Toggle Images in the Links bar and click it.

• Text Highlighter

This Web Accessory lets you highlight text in a document just like you would in Microsoft Word. It's easy. Select your text, then right-click and choose Highlight. This tool is very useful for reading long documents.

• Web Search

Here's another tool for searching faster than ever. With this Web Accessory you can select keywords on a Web page, right-click, and choose Web Search. Your selected words go directly to a default search engine.

• Links List

Ever wish you could see all the links on a page? Just right-click anywhere and select Links Lists, and you'll get a new window with every link on the page in a convenient list format. Then just click any link to navigate.

• Image List

Finding out what size the images on a page are and how long they take to download at various connection speeds has never been easier. This tool will also display all the images on a Web page in a separate window and display the file size and the size in pixels. This is a must-have accessory for Web developers.

Internet Explorer 5 Power Tweaks Web Accessories

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previo...ss/pwrtwks.mspx

This pack of Web Accessories adds an Offline/Online button to your toolbar that is very useful for notebook computer users. Restriction commands in the Tools menu help you set sites as trusted or restricted without having to wade through the control panel. You can also copy a URL onto the clipboard with a right-click of the mouse and paste locations in e-mail messages or any document.

Internet Explorer 5 Web Developer Accessories

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previo...bdevaccess.mspx

These two tools help the Web developer or those who are just curious about how pages are coded. The DOM tree tool lets you view all the Document Object Model properties in tree form with a right-click of the mouse or from the Tools menu. And for those who are tired of scrolling through hundreds of lines of HTML to find that one section of code that does what you want, you can now simply highlight the area of Web page for which you want to view the source, right-click on it, and then select View Partial Source.

It will be very cool if IE 7 will be integrated in next version.

integrated in the next version of the 98se SP? NEVER going to happen Tihiy!

Besides, IE 7 is XP SP2 compatible only. forget it! IE7 is for XP and Longhorn systems.

Read this article by Paul Thurrott on IE7 Preview 1:

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/ie7_preview_1.asp

IE7 isn't going to be Win2000 compatible either. what a darn shame for them too.

You do not know Tihiy very well do you ;)

Well said azagahl!

:lol::lol::lol:

Well DONT TELL THAT TO MICROSOFT! Sheesh! When MS makes the final release of IE7 they will only make it xp-compatible.

I got confused on the main topic in this thread titled "Possible Additions For The Next Major Version" Uh yeah like next major version of WHAT? Whoever started this topic needs to be more specific on the title. next major version of IE? next major version of the Win98se SP? Be clear on what the subject will be here.

I wonder if Tihiy can implement the Background Intelligent Transfer Service [bITS] feature that is included in Windows 2000, XP & Server 2003 onto a Windows 98 & Millennium system.

BITS is what makes Internet Explorer resume interrupted downloads.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) FAQ page:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community...s/bits_faq.mspx

BITS can also resume downloads at the V5 Windows Update site:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

The V5 Windows Update site only works with Windows 2000, XP & Server 2003.

Windows 98 & ME users attempting to go there will be redirected to the V4

Windows Update site.

when I downloaded a file in IE6SP2 on my WinXP SP2 system then I stop it halfway, then I selected the file that I had stopped downloading, it picked up where it left off. Tried that on my old Win98se system with IE6SP1 and it did NOT resume downloading the file.
