OK...so I know i have some virus/worm because i'm stuck without any anitvirus and it will not allow me to install any (occoured when i uninstalled 04 and installed 05 this week) i have the purchased legal copy of Norton 05 but when i install, midway through it I get the prompt "Norton AntiVirus 2005 installation has failed. Do you want to try to install again?"

so natually i went to symantecs website ( http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.n...src=bar_sch_nam ) and after carefully going through the steps tried it agian, but there is no change....anyone want to take this? thanks

I used Norton till 2004 and Norton gives the option to do a pre install scan from the disk before insalling. Did you do that?? If so you have a verry new virus in there which isn't on NAV data base on the disk..

Try an free online scan from Panda or Houscall..

Go to castleCops and put a hijackthis.log on the forum..

So you'll find out what the virus is and maybe there are removal tools available..

 Well i'm not the Hijackthis expert but you look pretty clean..

Are you sure it is a virus causing this problem??

Did you also try start/run/

sfc /scannow...

You only have a few lines with files missing which you can always fix..

And some unknown stuff...

But first see this

http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8576

&

http://hijackthis.de/index.php

:) Are online Hijackthis.log analyzers the .de one is the best organized..

They save a great deal of work and have a pretty good data base..

Paste your original .log file in there and submit..

They give you recomendations what to look for and what to do..

Look for bold and colored writen lines and advice

:thumbup

Ps.

If you like a on board Hijackthis.log analizer which you can also edit yourself (bad.dat file) you can try this one..

It's a nice piece of work but not regularly updated :}

Did you completly remove the old version of Norton BEFORE installing the new version or did you do it as part of the install? It doesn't work as part of the install that I know of. You must find the manually uninstall for the 2004 version and do that before install. You have the Norton 2005 virus... haha

Looks like you still have a CA AntiVirus Program running. (VET??)

Maybe you should uninstall this first before trying to install Norton.

Also perhaps tell us what file is failing on. If you watch the progress screen, it will print the name of the file being copied there.

I have found I sometimes have more than one Symantec help page before I get to the one that solves the problem for me.
