Can we have Another Notepad with SP2.0?

Rectification for metapad

you cannot select the font except between two.
I was wrong:

In fact you can select the font that you wish. Even better you can and easily switch between two custom fonts.

I didn't see Notetab mentioned...
We didn't pretend to list all the notepad replacements here. :)

Thanks for the link, More choice is always good.

it's strange cuzz notepad2 doesen't lag on me yet i prefer it over regular notepad

maybe it's your setup that lags it or something.

What set-up? It's supposed to open text in a heartbeat, I had to wait up to 10 seconds in some cases (files about 120 kb), less for small files.

Then the scrolling has some refresh problem.

No such problem with metapad.

Did you try opening large files?

Also I don't like the random coloring. (I know its not random, but for me it looked so).

PFE is very good too.

Except there isn't one thing that is very important to me whatever the app: a resizable open dialog window.

And PFE is already too advanced, it's like a script/code editor. My conception is that Notepad should be a minimal app just to see text quickely and type some infos inside.

PFE could play this role, if it was set by default to look like notepad (no statu bar, no tool bar etc).

The best would to ask the user what kind of Notepad they want during the installation process.

Did you try to open an 8 MB text file in Metapad? Did u notice how long it takes?

I prefer PFE because [this is only 1 out of 50 reasons] loads any number of files of any size [limited by your installed RAM, of course] *fast*.

Also: try to open a binary file [metapad.exe for example] in Metapad, see what happens. Then try that again with PFE.

About dialog box resizing:

there are free tools that do that [by hexing COMMDLG.DLL = which you can also do in ResourceHacker, ExeScope or XVI32 = http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#HEX ], so all Windows 9x/ME dialog boxes are taller/wider/etc.

More info:

But if u don't like PFE, you can also get another Notepad replacement :D [all freeware]:

BTW: I have replaced Notepad2 in 98SE2ME with PFE [install only option 5] [2.4 MB]:

http://www.mdgx.com/4

Or if u want PFE by itself [608 KB]:

Enjoy.
