Not all, & not with the same degree of performace, of the wmp updates re security & performance have been provided to 9 as to 10.

For those stuck on 9 due to 98/ME OS version, see here at msfn member MDGx's site for how to improve your current version-- btw it hasn't been finalized yet, nor made into one executable program, but you can perform those changes now: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S

and scroll down to: NEW: ADD WINDOWS XP SP2 FUNCTIONALITY this will upgrade your WMP 9 to build 9.00.00.3250--higher than your highest .2980 current version & only released for winXPSP2, and you will have a lot of wmp10 XPSP2 security patches/updated codecs in use.

AND........... WMP9 MP3 SUPPORT FROM WMP10 by msfn member miko

Be careful, backup first(turn off restore/file protection/security apps during operation, be aware that this disables any/all MS tech support rights, and if you want to wait, one standalone installable/uninstallable single app is on the way. And if you're going to do that, the rest of the enchilada is to add to 98 some better features found in ME, XP, 2K3: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S and performed in one app: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=37302

Do install first msfn member Gape's Unofficial Win98 Service Pack 2 to have all your other files properly updated first, and because it provides some needed tweaks, fixes some other settings(for instance, get around 512mb RAM limit).

Winamp (MP3)

WMP 10 (Video / CD-DVD)

WMP 6.4 (small clips)

You know thats a nice idea, file type registration based on file size. It would however require an exe frontend. Anyone know of any apps that can do this or do I have to go conjure up one?

I'm finally gettin .NET so I'll say I've found a first project :)

Currently using WMP 10, but plan on ditching it asap and going back to WMP 9. WMP 10 has an annoying knack of playing 3 video files and then shutting down whenever a fourth is loaded. WMP 9 never did this, plus it doesn't have the stupid now playing blue bar permanently stuck on it.

WMP 10 is the biggest waste of space I've ever had the misfortune to download and install.
