Wraith
Usually the transparent colour with bmp's is RGB(#FF00FF) or RGB(#0000FF), at least, that's the majority of ones that I've seen from MS.
XPero
Just make a 32 bit bmp (24-bit + 8 bit alpha channel) using Photoshop or similar, or take your favorite png and save it to bmp 32-bit. I havent tested that, but I pressume it will work.
Incroyable HULK
If I remember correctly, the upper right (or left?) pixel is the one to determine the transparency. So if you have a pink background you want to be transparent, make sure the corner's pixel has this color

SiMoNsAyS
well there is a way to do it that ALWAYS work:create a new bmp, be sure to use as background color 255,0,255 (or 0,255,0 or any other non-common color). the trick is that the 1,1 pixel of the image and the last 180,114 have to be of the same (transparent) colordraw inside or paste your favorite logosave the image as 256 color bmp and it will work.
