I currently have a WD 40gig 7200rpm ata100. I am going to buy a new one, 80-120 gig. any suggestions on brand or size? (maxtor, IBM, WD, ect.)

If you are in the US...go to www.xpbargains.com when you look for your HDD. There are some pretty good coupons on there. They find mistakes too! I found a 120GB HDD on there for $19! No kidding...of course, that deal only stayed up for a few hours before Office Depot realized that people were robbing them blind! LOL

I tend to go with Western Digital or Maxtor.

WD is a bit more expensive, but durable.

Maxtor is actually a bit more quiet, and less expensive.

grab one with a 8meg cache.....SWEEEETTTTT!

but really Ive had all of them and most of the time Ive stayed with WD but I had a barracuda and man that baby was fast and nice.

I would not recommend anything from Western Digital, I have had 3 drives go bad from them (800mb, 2gb, and a 4gb), they of course stopped working only a few months after the warranty expired. I stay clear of them and buy only Maxtor/Seagate. The only one that I have that still works is the 10GB model.

I do not own a fluid HDD but I have read that they should be quieter than ball. I was going to get a fluid drive but they were out of stock at my supplier when I need a drive so I went with ball..... :)
