Lodoss
Hello,From this forum, http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=24318&st=40James posted, "A little self-explanator, but perhaps worth reaffirming; if one removes the experimental 'Logical Disk Manager' service they will lose the ability to prep new harddrives (partition etc.)".1) So, just to be sure, if I remove Logical Disk Manager, but my partitions are already all taken care of prior to an install due to Partition Magic or any other such tool, then I no longer need LDM right?2) And after an install without LDM, if I add a new HD and take care of it with Partition Magic, then all I have left to do is boot into Windows and Format the new partitions, right?3 And the lack of LDM will not prevent my computer from using my logical disks I assume? Thanks in advance for any and all help! coch
Not sure if this service is needed to access your partitioned disks, but I suspect it is. Someone can confirm. However, I highly doubt partition magic would run without it.. Some 3rd marty defrag tools are already known not to work without it. Lodoss
Oh - sorry, forgot to mention that I would use Partition Magic from DOS boot CD... so no Windows involved...
nuhi
It's only needed to make partitions and for dynamic drives...something like RAID arrays i think. So if you don't use RAID remove it.
LeveL
I have a similar problem, I stripped most stuff out with nLite, but thencontinued on "the hardcore way" and removed about another 200 or300 files. Now I want to add back Logical Disk Manager! Its Server 2003.Its needed in Server 2003, othewise you'll never see your added hard disk inMy Computer, whatever the disk is, IDE/SATA, anything... not sure if its anydifferent in XP.I am trying to add back Logical Disk Manager. I have added back the 22 EXEand DLL files required for Logical Disk Manager and Computer Management,I have also added back each file to the TXTSETUP.SIF file too, I am not sureif thats going to be enough, only Nuhi knows the answer to that... I suspectthere are INF files involved too?I wonder if this will work...1 - Get a clean full OS, in a folder called "LDM-YES"2 - Put that same OS in a folder called "LDM-NO" and strip out ONLY the Logical Disk Manager.3 - Compare the 2.But then theres about 10 or so INF files that are editied by nLite, not removed!Thats where the trouble is going to lie, oh well there arn't that many uncabbed INF fileson the root of the source.
