Does this EXE (or the included .bat's) delete the regkeys noted, or does this need to be done manually?

I was curious and looked at the .bat and saw it calls "regedit /d" to delete the keys.

i second that... and

if anyone's also gotten any of IE's latest to work in 98... though I'm really, really ready to ditch IE & Explorer for Firefox & some other File Manager, but that's another topic.

there are still these ME-related updates that can be installed and aren't included in your batch file...

my route will be to create a small ME partition, update it, then copy over all the files from it instead-- while booted in it... ehh, why not: six of one, half dozen of the other?

Something worng, run half way then bad command or files name.

Edit: I figure it out, i just copy Xcopy32.exe and Regsvr32.exe to 98semp10 folder.

But what it does? The windows media player still 9 Series.

1. Fixed xcopy32 + resvr32 problems: please cut + paste new CODE below as 98SEMP10.BAT.

2. Of course it says WMP9, a few core files must be kept from WMP 9.0, otherwise won't work.

While searching for advice how to "Shutdown, restart in ms-dos..." using Blackbox, I stumbled into this

This world is not that bad, especially in the cyberworld where people are most willing to share their knowledge, I look forward to receiving some hospitable advice on:

1... What're the benefits of modifying Windows 98 SE with components of newer versions of Windows

2... Will the time and effort spent on modifying Win 98 SE for installing WMP 10 be worth it, when players such as ZoomPlayer, Gr8 Player, etc can be easily installed with a few mouse clicks?

My recent experience: after spending two days replacing explorer by BBLean, the benefits I got are: minimalistic appearance suiting my preference, saving 3 MB of RAM from removing explorer and systray from msconfig>startup, applications including FireFox 1.0.4 and FreeDwonLoadManager 1.7 have crashed a few times today!

3.. Would modifying Windows 98 SE using components of newer Windows DEFINITELY--from experience--stabilise WIn 98 SE?

Welcome to MSFN forums, herbalix...

no "connection" with Asterix + Obelix [popular French comics by Goscinny et Uderzo], I presume?

1. Increased compatibility with newer apps/games/tools and other [newer] system updates/components. Eventually better stability, performance, internet speed, reliability, and even better security defense.

2. WMP10 adds besides newer codecs and compatibility with newer internet streaming protocols some [needed] security patches + newer versions of WMP codecs.

You need to keep in mind that WMP 6.4/7/8/9/10 NetShow [DirectShow] DirectX APIs + codecs are also used [because of DirectX components being so "tightly" integrated into the Win32 OS] by majority of multimedia software tools that play/record/edit/stream video/audio/music/DVD/etc.

Same goes for my scripts to replace majority of Win98 SE WMP9 files with XP SP2 newer WMP9 files:

3. I'm testing newer/updated system files on my Win98 SE computer for over 4 years, most of the time with positive results [see 1. above].

I've been "toying" mostly with WinME, and more recently XP SP2 + 2003 SP1 files.

If this is true, I have no experience with it.

Therefore you need to more specific, please post some details about the app you are using [name, version, URL], error messages (if any) and any [other] errors, issues, problems etc u may have encountered while using this app, your OS release, build + language, and if you believe this is related to some hardware device in your computer, please make a list of your computer hardware specs.

Also, in order to be able to help, I need to know on what kind of system you are using Blackbox, with or without:

Gape's SP 2.x [which version], 98SE2ME [which options u installed], Tihiy's Revolutions Pack [which version], Maximus-Decim Cumulative Update or Native USB Drivers [which versions],

and also, what other system/add-on/components updates, patches, fixes, replacements etc u installed before installing Blackbox or/and while using it.
