Dell and Rodney
Well i have 3 PCs all connected to my router/ modem using RJ45 cables.Out of the 3 pcs i want have one PC where i can transfer files from and to with my server.Currently i can share files with each PC (except for the server).I can transfer files from and to my server only if i change the RJ45 cables around (i.e. take out my internet cable and replace it with my server RJ45 cable) so i want to know if its possible to do this with a RJ45 splitter without and performance or internet speed loss.Or is there another way you would recommend? blackbull
Hardware:Router with 4 rj45 utp cables Your cables must be straight thru A or BI think that in win2k3 u have domain controller and dchp enabledU can put custom ip's to each pcThe idea is...Workgroup Name-->Same 2 allServer -->tcp/ip 10.0.0.1 (or whatever u want)Terminals-->tcp/ip 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.4Subnet Mask--->255.255.255.0Router-->ip 10.0.0.200Default Gateway and primary dns server--> 10.0.0.200 (pc's u want to access internet)

Radimus
and when you say "splitter" are you meaning "Hub".If you mean HUB, then that is what you need to do
Dell and Rodney
My Setupthats how my setup is.3 Pcs connected to 1 D-Link which in turn is then connected to my phone line. The red line indicates that i have to SWAP the RJ45 with that PC in order to transfer files.and when you say "splitter" are you meaning "Hub".If you mean HUB, then that is what you need to dono ive been told there are splitters that you can insert 2 RJ45 cables into 1 end and the other end inserts in your PCthank you all

Radimus
get a Hub (costs about $20 bucks or so for a 4 port) and do it the way I showed in the last picture I posted
blackbull
I told u the way to do it...Which part u didnt understand ?Of course, when u do this, u have to configure ur router (firewall) and especially your server. My opionion is to put your server in the router, but do not give internet access.Leave blank default getway and dns server
Radimus
You say the router is 4 port, why do you not just plug it in there? Is thr router a DHCP server, or is it getting it from the dialup provider?,
Dell and Rodney
Ok so i get a Hub - would this mean i can connect more than 3 PCs to the internet (depending how many ports the hub has?) and what about the modem/ router? could i still use this?Heres the spec for my current modem router:http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=jN7uAYLx/oIJaWV...N3k2qrnK04Uue0=I told u the way to do it...Which part u didnt understand ?Of course, when u do this, u have to configure ur router (firewall) and especially your server. My opionion is to put your server in the router, but do not give internet access.Leave blank default getway and dns serverwell i would do that but again im not sure how to set this up - unless you know some link i can read up onYou say the router is 4 port, why do you not just plug it in there? Is thr router a DHCP server, or is it getting it from the dialup provider?,I reserved the 4th port for another PC that i may buy later onAccording to the manufacturer link i would say yes its DHCPAt the moment all pc are configured to have DHCP set to automaticThanks all
