STFW? I know STFU....but now STFW. lol

so far, none of that has made it, probally because I'm writing the manual they're supposed to be read.....now wouldn't that be one of the most annoying books? You're reading a section, then it says to read the same section because you didn't read it. Talk about a paradox and an infinite loop. Kinda like looking up definitions in the dictionary....gotta look up hundreds of words just to understand the word you were looking for.

Another Idea I had a while ago, but forgot:

A Setup Timeline Picture!

Im still confused/ignorant of when nlite goes to work, bashrats driverpacks, hotfixes, and runonceex. I'm sure it would be helpful if we had a graphical representation of this.

I know nothing about PHP, but I googled this: http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp

ummm....

I personally like the idea of, if you don't know when a program does it's thing, then ask the author....

No offense. nLite, if it still uses the INF file, i believe runs at about T-13 or so, as for the DriverPacks, depending on how they're constructed maybe around the sametime as RyanVM's pack or entries are jsut added and they're present at time of Driver installation (perhaps DetachedProgram).

Some sites where you can learn and find examples:

PHP

http://www.w3schools.com/php

http://www.php.net

http://www.phpbuilder.com

http://www.phpfreaks.com

SQL

http://www.w3schools.com/sql

I'll see if I can find some more, because the other PHP sites I have are Dutch...

Basic PHP & MySQL isn't that hard to learn, but it's basically finding examples and trying out yourself. I'm not an expert at both PHP and MySQL, but I know the basics (and I'm a quick learner :)), so if you want any help, just send me a PM or something.

Grrrr....

I see one more post like this after the new guide is out, and I will explode!

link

Ain't it already clear enough to them! Please have this (or something similar) included in the guide:

The presence of winnt.sif by itself removes ability to repair/recovery console and add MassStorage drivers.

If you want to use repair, use your non-unattended CD (i.e., slip-streamed with the latest SP, but no winnt.sif).

Start linking to topics that should be included?
I don't quite understand what you mean...

The link to topic, which I gave above, was just a example of the sort of things that drive the forum-regulars to madness - since the same question comes in once a week atleast.

Just adding that info (which I pointed to above) in the guide (where exactly to add, is up to you) will be sufficient, /me thinks. I'll keep my eyes peeled for other frequent irritants, and post them here.

I'd like to see a slip-stream guide like Paul Thurrott's. Incidentally, he's not patented the method (sarcastic) - its certainly public knowledge. So having the same thing modified (with credits, if so desired) and put in the guide should not cause any problems.

Back by popular demand.
