To do list for 2.0 FINAL

Salamo Alekko!

I don't want to get in the way, nor state something too obvious or answer for Gape, but...

1. as the usb install was proceeding & stumbling over the location of various files-- were you doing a Find for each file & pointing the install procedure to the location?

2. but more critical: subsequent intel chipsets like 845/850(yours: 815) after they first shipped, required a patch in order to use stuff like USB, agp, pci, etc. : here's the file & description for it:

http://appsr.intel.com/scripts-df/proc/T8C...infinst_enu.exe

The Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility installs the Windows* INF files. The INF files inform the operating system how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as AGP, USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services..... and here's the section where it's listed: http://appsr.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_D...10&DwnldID=5411

I remember that for my mobos back in the days, then came the usb 1.1 update, then usb2-- and this patch was needed for it: USB QFE for USB 2.0 Support [uSBXPFIX.EXE]

ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/5552/eng/usbxpfix.exe and usb2: ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/5540/eng/usb20.exe

I don't see anymore any pre-usb2 downloads, like the usb 1.1 download, though it used to be there-- and/but i remember those were the ones used by several mobo makers... if you went to ECS, VIA sites to update drivers, they would point you to Intel site and/or host the downloads-- named Intel usb 1.1 & 2 updates. Here's the one at Via-- it still seems to have the 2001 date, though now it's called via usb 1.1 filter update and/or via host controller: http://www.viaarena.com/downloads/drivers/...rs/usbf_110.zip

And as you know, here's everything Intel lists for your Intel® D815EEA2 Motherboard(btw the Intel App Accelerator makes a huge difference), of course nothing re usb:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...SE&submit=Go%21

So..... would that intel inf utility help, would it even install, would it be harmful?

Good luck.....

.

Okie, dokie:

Do a Find in your system exactly like this(you can copy & paste):

UFD*.*

Right-click UFD.INF and select install, then re-click that search button again.

Try to re-install your peripheral, and if the install routine can't find ufd.sys, point it to where it is according to your search. If it didn't turn up, that's ok-- point it to windows\system\precopy\ufd.cab-- it should see it and continue w/ install.

Let us know if this worked-- if not, pls give us your peripheral brand name, model, FCC ID#, serial #.... anything you can tell us....

Wa Alykum salam:

OK-- the Rambo part helped: the model is named Ram Bo, manufactured by this Chinese company: http://www.aforce.com/index.html# which sells retail products under the Muse brand: http://www.muse.com.hk/support/howtoinstal...sp?lang=en&tid= Here are the drivers, choose the picture that resembles your model: http://www.muse.com.hk/support/driver/index.jsp?lang=en&tid=

one on the right is usb1.1:

usb2 in the middle column bottom: http://www.muse.com.hk/support/driver/Ramb....0%20Driver.zip

They both come with a nice setup program, making the install process a bit easier: they include the necessary drivers & extra system files/utilities that might be missing from your system/you might need, pdf manuals-- the second one comes with what looks like a software program.

BTW it will not hurt to install both-- your system will recognize only the correct one, and you never know when you might find a different used one somewhere w/ a missing or damaged cd...

some of their listed Precautions:

a.) Deactivate the M-Disk before removing it from the USB port

b.) Keep your M-Disk away from water, extreme moisture or heat

c.) Keep your M-Disk away from electrostatic sources and magnetic fields

d.) Store your M-Disk with its cap in place

e.) Do not force the M-Disk into the USB port. If the port resists smooth insertion of the M-Disk, check that the device is positioned with the USB icon on top and that the port is free of obstructions

You do have more than one system, so if there are any other issues, feel free to let us know.

that proggy makes the background white and i use blue backgrounds so very useless unless your using a white background.

Hi again, the desktop background and the text must be the same color. I guess they leave out detail on how to make it work. The program version I use is the original, which is not available anymore (it's like the guy disappeared or something..)

Anyway, I submitted the anoyances.org version cause I thought the original didn't give permission to distribute. However when looking for the original zip, I found it includes help text and permission to distribute from the author. (it's OK to distribute but it must be without profit).

Use the 'transparent /W' option for a photo background, you won't be disappointed.

Hi,

is it possible to include updated multimedia drivers e.g. intel indeo video/sound codec etc to SP2.0. Only those that originally come with win98se as they seem agaed.

Btw i personally think adding updated system files and drivers is more realistic

than uillities/programs to win98se so that the size of service pack won't become to large.

Lastly i want to thanks Gape for his great service packs.
