XP Setup asks 4 serial when run from 98.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

I don't know if I did something wrong, but I need your info in this matter.

I created my bootable unattened CD of Windows XP and It works without problems. It does not ask me for anything at all, however I noticed that if I want to install Windows XP after installing 98 ( setup run from win98 ), it asks me to enter the serial.

Is this the normal action of Windows XP Setup if run from Win98, or I missed something ?

Thanks in advance :thumbup

When you run the setup from a win32 environment, it won't read the winnt.sif.

What you do is specify an answerfile in the setup command line, for example:

winnt32.exe /unattend:winnt.txt

Where winnt.txt is a renamed winnt.sif, with the same content.
