MSFN's Unattended Windows : SVCPACK.INF Method

You must copy update.exe to E:\Hotfix\ (with all others fix)

warning: update.exe v6.2.29.0 (extract from a last hotfix)

To extract: E:\Hotfix\WindowsXP-KB925454-x86-ENU.exe /X:C:\temp

After integration to new XP, open XP/I386/svcpack

Option: Add qchain.exe (program) is in /I386/svcpack than

write qchain.exe text on SVCPACK.INF on XP/I386 (to test)

......
.......
KB886185.cat
KB885836.cat
KB873339.cat
qchain.exe

This utility will ensure that the highest file version is installed if there is

a scenario where 2 hotfixes contain the same exe/dll file with different version numbers.

cut the section of Integrate Service Pack 2 for CD with XP_Sp2

echo °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
echo ° Integrate Service Pack 2 °
echo °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
pause
echo.
E:\Hotfix\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ITA.exe /X:E:\sp2
E:\sp2\i386\update\update.exe /Integrate:E:\XP
rmdir E:\sp2 /s /q
echo.
echo.
pause

This method of installation, leaves a folder $hf_mig$

of backup that do not serve to nothing, and all one series of others file such as

.temp .txt to delete from C:\Windows (+/- 100 Mb of occupied space)

A complete list of download is below:

E:\Hotfix\WindowsXP-KB925454-x86-ENU.exe /X:E:\temp

E:\Hotfix\WindowsXP-KB921398-x86-ENU.exe /X:E:\temp1

Copy correct version in System32, dllcache (Hide folder)

Unlocker the file, and Force Windows File Protection

I use the SVCPACK.INF method. If you already have this configured just download IE7 update and put it in \I386\SVCPACK then edit \I386\SVCPACK.INF to include "IE7.exe /quick /udpate-no /no-default /nobackup /norestart" to the [setupHotfixesToRun]. It's better to put this at the top of the list and don't forget to include qchain.exe at the end of the list.

If you need more info, the SVCPACK method of installing Microsoft Updates is covered on the MSFN site.

This works well for me, but i'm still having trouble configuring IE7 for the "Default User". My approach has been to include user registry settings during execution of Cmdlines.txt, which are applied to "Default User". For IE7, some of the settings are retained (ie: first run page, home page, search providers, etc) but a few settings are overwritten for new users (phishing filter settings, intranet settings, etc).

Genuine image of WXP_Sp2

(open with UltraIso, add all folders and files of new XP, save, and burning new XP.Iso!)

Add: DOTNETFX, SUPPORT, VALUEADD of Service Pack 2 CD

new Slipstreamer_WindowsXp....for english ver.

Before starting script,

make a folder E:Hotfix with update.exe

and all hotfix listed on Security update M$ Catalog,

for new fix add in order in the script. (click dx button, modify)

(Don't put QChain.exe in E:\Hotfix when extract XPSp2 -

Don' t make a SVCPACK folder) Test it!
