HOTFIXES: Windows XP SP2 & Windows 2000 SP4

Recommended Posts

it's the same one............

Actually, it's not. Apparently the one that was released in May wasn't the final build, but the distribution mistake wasn't caught until 9-2. If you look at the digital signatures, the rerelease has a verisign date one day (5-4-05) after the May release. If you extract the archives and compare, there are indeed differences.

Looking through them, it appears that the difference is that the May release erroniously set the uninstall reg key to point to "KB893803" instead of the "KB893803v2" that it should be.

While not a show-stopper, this is an important rerelease if you ever want to be able to properly uninstall the update. There is no other indication of the change, so the update probably won't show up on windows update if you already have the May release. Despite that, I'd still strongly advise everyone updating their Post-SP2 packages.

[edit]

Oh, and for this month's release of the malicious software removal tool, we have an exciting new Version value of "33B662A4-4514-4581-8DD7-544021441C89"

.bat file:

REG ADD "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT" /v "Version" /d "33B662A4-4514-4581-8DD7-544021441C89" /f

.reg file:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT]

"Version"="33B662A4-4514-4581-8DD7-544021441C89"

Hi,

I don't like SP2 and I need all the SP1 updates.

I'd like to know if an updated list is welcome.

It wouldn't be a much harder job for me.

Regarding unattended switchs, I can only say what is the icon like (will integrate with nLite), but Ctrl+H should do the trick.

Also, tell me if you have a list for SP1, it could spare me some work.

PS: maybe that links will redirect to French pages, depends if I'm a bit too lazy.

NB: I've been copying my HDD over itself at 550Ko/s with crashes, freezes and corruption since last sunday. Now I can say I am patient enough to go through all M$ updates.

What version of Windows? Although I'm not positive, I'm pretty sure QChain is redundant for some of the most recent versions (Windows XP SP2, at least).

Why does Win2K ask for the Update Rollup after it's already installed?

I created an integrated bootable CD with Win2K Pro, SP4, and the Update Rollup V2 (891861). Installed, ran Windows Update, installed a bunch of new Security updates, all is well.

Now... to upgrade to IE6 SP1. Install via Windows Update and reboot. Run Windows Update again. WTF??? It's asking for the Update Rollup (KB891861) AGAIN.

Why is this? Is it really needed, to re-update some files from IE6 SP1? Or is this bogus?

QChain is just used to ensure that the latest file is present. So if you install an older hotfix, it will not over write the newer file on the system.

As Cartoonite mentioned, it is already integrated into XP SP2

You should install IE6 at first BEFORE any hotfixes and apply the Update Rollout as the LAST hotfixe in your sequence...

Well, OK... but then how do I attain my goal of integrating these hotfixes onto my bootable install CD? In other words, can I integrate IE6 SP1 as "just another hotfix"? I read through the http://unattended.msfn.org site and I didn't see anything there about this.

Basically, my goal is to have a single, bootable CD with all the Windows 2000 updates I need on there.

Right now, I have it to where I can integrate SP4, the Update Rollup, and all the newer hotfixes using the /Integrate /Nobackup switches. But I still have to manually install IE6.0 SP1. How can I automate that piece?
