HOTFIXES: Windows XP SP2 & Windows 2000 SP4

Recommended Posts

IE 6 hotfix KB903235 is out, there is two versions (for XP sp1 & XP sp2).

It fixes the Javaprxy.dll.

Knowledge Base article : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=903235

XP sp1 download page : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...f8-6993c55840a9

XP sp2 download page : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...b1-600db8798ebf

I downloaded the XP sp2 one (in french), and there is no file in it, only some registry values in the .INF, and an executable to run (which seems to "fix dates")

Not installed yet.

bye

Windows 9x/NT4/2000/ME/XP/2003 manual REG Workaround:

:: FIRST close ALL MS IE (IEXPLORE.EXE) instances (if any).

:: Copy + paste text between cut & paste lines below in Notepad -> save as JVMPXFIX.REG (example) -> (double)-click on JVMPXFIX.REG to merge into Registry:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{03D9F3F2-B0E3-11D2-B081-006008039BF0}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

:: Restart MS IE for this Workaround to take effect.

:: Requires MS JVM already installed!

What I don't get is why this issue even affects XPSP2. The MS JVM hasn't been included with Windows since SP1a. I suppose there are those who manually install it, but that's crazy IMO given how extremely outdated and insecure it is (as I've ranted about in other threads on this forum).

I would've agreed with you, until earlier this week that is. I had to try and run a tool called 'netxfer' that is design to recover failed firmware on some of our older thin-clients.. For some crazy reason, this tool NEEDED the MS JVM installed. Thankfully I had a copy of WinXP SP1 floating around, so I just grabbed it from there.

hi guys,

the following batch file will create the svcpack.inf file (only tested with XP SP2)

all you have to do is put it in the I386/SvcPack folder where all KB*.exe files are.

I thought I'd share it since all you have to do after you put more KB* files in that folder

is to execute the batch file again...

create_svcpack.zip

Am posting my hot-fix problem here for help please, cos I think thats the problomo.

I am getting the attached error messages and I think it’s to do with the hot fixes.

Below is my file.

The ones in red do not seem to be installed anywhere. Looked in winnt and in add remove programs.

I am not sure which file could be causing the problem.

Could these files be the syntax error? And how can I get rid of the extract message as it appears right bang in the middle so it disturbs my coffee break!

Finally for now…. I think I am supposed to run the second line (KB814078.exe) from a RunOnceEx.cmd file?

I don't seem to have that?

Is this something covered in the intermediate section of the guide?

Thanks anyone

Gee. Thanks SubSence and Incroyable HULK.

I think you may have stumbled upon the answers I'm looking for.

Never thought about commenting out the import! -

Next stage is to do like you said

AND you have to install KB814078.exe & KB823353.exe later on (after a reboot) ... with a batch file or RunOnceEx.cmd

Brilliant.

Thanks a lot

:thumbup

One last thing (understandability) How do you make the RunOnceEx.cmd run in an unattended install or am I missing the point and have to run this in the run box from Start/run... after its loaded up.

Cheers

To make KB903235 seem like it's installed, put this in the registry....

For the INF file people

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{03D9F3F2-B0E3-11D2-B081-006008039BF0}","Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,0x400

For the regedit people:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{03D9F3F2-B0E3-11D2-B081-006008039BF0}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

For the CMD people :

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{03D9F3F2-B0E3-11D2-B081-006008039BF0}" /v "Compatibility Flags" /t REG_DWORD /d 1024

Tested & Approuved :thumbup
