I don't think I will upgrade to Longhorn. My next computer will be a PowerBook, and if I ever need a Windows machine, then I can use Longhorn. Maybe if I really need it for school or work, then I'll get a new computer with Longhorn, but I don't think I will.

It work on my PC, and i wait the RTM of Longhorn to upgrade my computer.

I have

AMD Athlon XP 1,2 Ghz

ATI Radeon 9200 SERIES 256 Mo

512 Mo RAM

HDD : 80 Go

(30 Go for Windows XP Professionnel SP2,

40 Go for my personal data

10 Go for test Longhorn 4074)

I advise all to no upgrade XP with a beta of longhorn because i think they cause somes problems ....

everybody will upgrade eventually. the same happened when XP came out. now there are only very few people who still use w2k, or even earlier versions of windows.

back then, many ppl said: "i will never upgrade to winXP its bloat/spyware"

i bet 80% of them are using XP right now ;)

As for the upgrade required for longhorn.... you have to remember that an entire industry is looking towards longhorn to revive sagging demand for "MORE, BIGGER,  FASTER" segment of hardware! Whether MS satisfiers them or not, is a moot-point at this time.

There is no reason an OS should be looked to to revive a sagging demand for "more, bigger, faster" from the hardware industry. If this is one of the goals of Longhorn, it can be simply said that Longhorn is written specifically to be a slow lumbering pos that requires more powerful hardware than it should. Something that should be seen as morally wrong by any developer.

Guys,

I'm wondering what spec peoples PC is that are currently testing the BETA versions, as I think an upgrade of my PC will be needed, but want to know what the real world users are running so i can gauge the potential cost of new/upgrade to PC.

I currently run a DualPIII 450MHz, 512MB RAM, 64MB AGP NVidia, Intel Pro 10/100MB NIC, Plextor CD-RW, 80GB HDD. No Soundcard as have a PS2 & Stereo so not needed/wanted/required.

Will this cope or will i need major changes?

Cheers for thoughts

If I were you I'd up them processors and get a DVD drive - Chances are Vista will only be available on DVD discs.

I'm sorry to bump this topic, but I don't want to start a new on for a small thing.

I have requested the media for Windows Vista as I am a beta tester.

This will be the first time I use and install Vista.

I was wondering how long it would take the media to arrive.

Anyone know? Have you people got yours yet in the post?
