if you transform nero and nve to use a 7zip sfx archive, you will save 10mb on top of the winrar.  If people want a guide on how to do this, I can post it, but it will take a while for me to get it all together.

Please do. It will help me a lot.

Well I have officially jumped onto the 7-Zip band wagon...

Not to surplant evilvoices forthcoming guide, here is a batch file to recompile the nero6601.exe for 7-Zip

changed back to the 

'>"nero6601\VersionInfo.txt"

vs. the 

>>"nero6601\VersionInfo.txt" ECHO.

method of creating the empty files due to the >>" one was creating 2 byte files instead of 0 byte files, so errors during that section are normal, and expected

edit the batch as follows

set VAR=C:\Progra~1\7-Zip

with your path to 7-Zip

>>"key.txt" echo RunProgram="setup.exe /SN=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX /WRITE_SN /SILENT /NO_UI /NOREBOOT /NOLICENSE /NOCANCEL"

with your serial number

using this patched nero exe will not create links, must manually create them or delete the following lines:

just put the nero6601.exe & the edited batch file in same dir and run the batch

nero6601.exe unedited = 29,392,812 bytes

nero6601.exe winrar method = 19,257,546 bytes

nero6601.exe 7-Zip method = 14,383,755 bytes

And the -o option to specify *where* to unpack.....good to know when installing from CD/DVD... 8-)

I was able to get my winrar nero down to 16,959,321 bytes but for some reason I can't get nero to take my key. I can put the key in manually and it work, but won't work with the switches.

along with the install file, don't forget to use the reg file.

@Becko: Are you ending up with an nero6601-Lite7z.exe file?

if so... to make it silent run it as so...

from CD

nero6601-Lite7z.exe -y -o"%SystemDrive%\temp"

from HDD

nero6601-Lite7z.exe -y

any problems let me know

They've been known for quite a while... The mpeg2 plugin isn't very good. The HE AAC plugin has been a center of interest for many people. But overall, nothing amazing...

If your talking about the progress bar and cancel button box, i don't think there is a way to dismis that, evilvoice is alot better at 7-Zip although, so maybe he can confirm this.

I dunno what you all are doing wrong...I posted how to make nero with 7zip...you do not need -y or -o...the exe extracts to your temporary directory, so unless your computer set up your cdrom as a temp dir, it should be fine...also, 7zip sfx is already silent...it will always display a box because they havent made any commands to hide the extraction box (7zip developers)...Ive made tons of 7zip self extractors and installers and have never needed any of these switches you all keep posting...I spent time making a whole new thread for nero7zip, but noone has really replied in it or anything, so maybe you all havent seen it...I do like fugg's work in reducing, but in my experience, if you delete something, you run the risk of something else not working...the biggest reduction is from removing plugins, but I dont like to be limited in what I can record to a cd. This is not meant to discredit fugg's work..I appreciate that he did it, and I may use it for different things...Im just giving some information...a lot of people will look at it and say "oh wow, I can reduce nero by half and not lose any functionality" but you do lose some things in reducing...as I said, not meant to discredit, just kind of a disclaimer.
