MCT Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 @moo i dont think u understood what he meant by standalone, meaning they dont have 2 read/write 2 the registry 2 work but for me its:opera (everything is done via config files)xplodenlite (requires .net tho)adawarenotepad2nod32 (u can use just the .exe & the database 2 run "nod32.exe" )
RogueSpear Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Moo named some of the best. No need to repeat them. One other one I use a lot is NTREGOPT. Its a freeware registry defrager and even has decent command line support. I originally found this over at Softpedia.
phillyman2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Author Posted October 3, 2004 Well here is some that I use:*Firefox*SequoiaViewAida32 RegSupremeStingerxpantispyregshotsisoftwarecwshredderidsuitehdtunenerocd and dvd speed hd speednero infotoolpowerquest driveimageghostcommtestdefragNTReally Firefox can be installed on to a USB Flash Drive and ran from any computer ? You are telling me it has no ties into the registry ? thats awesome if i can just copy my Firefox Folder to my Flash drive
RyanVM Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Firefox doesn't require registry entries to run. However, it does require them if you want it to be registered as the default browser and if you want plugin installers to recognize it as installed.
MCT Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 same as opera.. only reg entries for opera i believe are if u want it as default browser
smc1979 Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 CS Fire Monitor is one that I use that doesnt need anything.
prathapml Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Office97 can run straight off the CD - install it, and copy the installed folder to CD. Good for those times when you need it, but don't want to bother wasting time on installing it.But its not freeware - so keep that in mind!*please post in correct section - thread moved.
<SparTacuS> Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 You should check out the PE forums (both here and at the CD Forum) Almost anything can be persuaded to run "stand alone".
CoffeeFiend Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 It depends for what purpose... I do use a ton of "standalone apps" like that (that I just "install" by putting in $OEM$\$Progs and adding a shortcut to them) yet none of them have been mentionned so far.. Like <SparTacuS> mentionned, the list could be very, very long.a couple of them on top of my head:winhttrackputtymirczoom playeravipreviewradlight filter managergraphedit... (TONS more I'm sure)
Gaav Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 I miss the ultimate file-management tool Total Commander.For free (shareware) download @ http://www.ghisler.com/
