rajamsa Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Hello :-)(This is my first message here ... so be patient with me)I'm having some trouble with WinXP SP2 sliptreamed CD, when doingunattended installation.Installation goes normally, until the fist reboot. After the first boot I get a message: 'a disc read error press CTRL+ALT+DEL'I used XPCREATE to slipstream : +WinXP SP2 +Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5 +Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package +Update for Windows XP : HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240) +Silicon Image SATA RAID sil3112 driverIt works fine when doing manual installation, but stalls when doing unattended installation.I tested my HW and BIOS setting with my former 'SP1a + multiple fixies (04.2004)'-XPCREATE CD and had no problems ... Has anyone run in to this kind of trouble with SP2 slipstreamed?
prathapml Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Well, even today (right now) I did a manual slip-stream and it works fine. Must be a problem elsewhere. You could try changing the brand of the CD-media on which you write your installs. Also, open up "I386\txtsetup.sif", and check if the SetupSourcePath is set to "\".
GreenMachine Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I, too, would have to suspect disk problems. Perhaps: Too fast of a burn, poor quality or incompatble media, dirty CD-ROM driver. Have you tested in VPC/VMWare, or verified with CDCHECK?
rajamsa Posted August 24, 2004 Author Posted August 24, 2004 Thanks for the suggestions.I checked my WinXP SP2 CD with CDCheck v3.0.1.43 ... No Problems found. Also the "I386\txtsetup.sif" had SetupSourcePath set to "\".My CD-media is CD-RW 10-24x. I burned the image with Nero using burn speed 24x.Mayby this is the problem?I'll try burning it to CD-R 48x with burnspeed 24x ...
rajamsa Posted August 25, 2004 Author Posted August 25, 2004 Problem solved :-)))As usual the was between the seat and keyboard ;-)The hardware drivers needed for unattended installation whichworked with SP1 did not work with SP2.The problem driver was EPoX nvidia IDE driver.I reduced drivers to Memory controller, SM Bus and Sil3112 SATA RAID.After that ... no problems. Thanks for the advices ... sorry I kind of bothered you for nothing ... stupid meMSFN & XPCREATE rules :-)
GreenMachine Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 So, it was a loose nut behind the wheel? No problem, no bother. It happens to the best of us.And since I forgot before ... Welcome to MSFN!
prathapml Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 The problem driver was EPoX nvidia IDE driver.I reduced drivers to Memory controller, SM Bus and Sil3112 SATA RAID.After that ... no problems.Good to hear that you have eliminated that bug.Why not stick to nvidia's reference drivers itself? Its newer and tested far more than we ever could - get the nForce drivers for winxp from here and use that instead of Epox's own.
GreenMachine Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Good to hear that you have eliminated that bug.Eliminated the loose nut?Just kidding ... Sorry, I wanted to be the last post, so I know I don't need to come back to this thread!
