NES Controller to PC

Hey guys!

Anyone know of a link where I can get info on how to make, maybe a USB adapter or adapt a NES controller to a USB cable and plug it in my computer? Maybe not a USB cable, but something else... :)

Any help would be appreciated.

I've seend the "NES PC", but it uses a Molex connector to get powered. I want to use my controller without using too many wires (molex connectors, etc...)

Thanks.

I made a SNES controller for PC about 8 years ago. only parts needed were like 5 diodes a parallel port connector and thats all... the official drivers for it aren't available anymore. but i've found some that do work. i've been more then pleased with it. although its only 1 controller per computer :)

Single SNES Controller. (SNES to Parallel Port)

Also, theres a program out there called zbattlenet which will allow you too play Multiplayer SNES games through ZSNES but I couldn't find it out there haven't used that prog in like 5 years

All the USB ones that i have seen haven't been schematics, they were all products. I saw one connector that i kinda wish i bough when i was playin emmulators on my computer, but i can't remeber the name.... but it was a USB to a junction box that had SNES/DreamCast/Sega/PSX connectors on it, pretty sweet :D i'm sure they have upgraded it if its still out there. but the price was around 80 bucks. so i never bought it.

hmm...... now you got me thinking about getting out my controller and start playin again :D

congrats! the one i made *the link i provided* all i did was went too my local radio shack bought me a pack of diodes and the male parellel connector with casing... all mine looks like is a SNES controller that has a parrelel connector insted and i just leave it plugged in all the time.

Total Cost... about 15 bucks... or cheaper for the WHOLE project.

9.99 for controller

1.50 for diodes

2.00 for connector

ahh 1 more bit.... I'm guessing you made a SNES controler not a NES controller, but i've also sucessfuly WITHOUT changing any settings played NES, SNES, Atari, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, N64 (kinda hard with no joystick and missing some buttons), and Sega Genesis roms all with this 1 controller.

happy gaming :)

*digs through his junk hoping too find his controller* :D now i wanna start playin the old games again :D

*sorry for the crappy focus on this pic... its 4 am here and haven't slept for 3 days*

oh, I tried running the NTPad on the link i sent you... and it was a no go. had too dig around on my backup drive too find a prog called "Parallel Port Joystick" or PPJoy for short. its 1.3 megs so i can't post it up here.

Hehe... I use PSXPad as the driver... Its the only one that I got working properly... I'll make up a diagram for 1 controller with a pic and then for 2 controller with a pic... There is no need for any diodes... I tried using a NES controller with the parallel port and I only used one point for power... Works fine...

The whole thing cost me $0... Just ripped an old printer cable apart! :D Thank god for the Dremel! Cleaned the glue off that thing! :)

OK everyone! Just finished my adapter for two controllers and it works great with the PSXPad drivers. I had a bit of trouble at first, but I fixed it by changing the preferred gaming device to the second controller and both controllers started to work.

Here are the quick diagrams I made in Photoshop:

Two players: http://imagehost.astromike.com/uploaded/2playernes.jpg

And the adapters:

My awesome soldering skillz:

I took out the connectors from the NES and soldered them on here because I didn't want to do anything to the controllers yet. I'm going to get a box and make it look nice soon! :)

Has anyone managed to get two controllers working on the same computer with the diagram I posted?  It seems to only work on one of my computers, but not the other one... :)

haven't tried 2 controllers yet sorry. my friend who made an NES with 2 connectors not sure about the schematic but his was working fine he may have thrown it all away but this was like 4 years ago.
