phantasia
Hello there...I´ve tried to search for an answer on this but haven´t found out anything...Whenever I right click on any folder in my Desktop, or inside the "my computer", on any of the drives, or even in any folder in the "start" menu, the shell closes, and sometimes it just restarts. It´s very anoying. And if anyone knows anything about this I would apreciate some help.I have even tried installing all the updates for Xp but so far no go...Btw, I´m using WindowsXP Pro+Sp1. jrzycrim
That's a fairly common problem and it's usually related to context menu handlers (right click menu entries) that 3rd party applications install. Have you installed any new progs recently? Do you receive any errors? Does it happen with any type of folder or with folders that contain images?Launch regedit (start > run, enter regedit), and export these keys:HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\ShellHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlersHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers Post the contents of those keys here and maybe the potential problem can be found. Curv Boll
Hey Phantsia, here ya go buddy!I had the same problem myself and this ms patch cured the problem exactly.MS did not include this patch in sp1 as the problem did not seem common enoughand it is recommended that you apply this patch only if you have the exact problem you are having.Go to this link and click on the download link to download the patch.the windows shell shall never fail me again!Let me know when your working again.Good luckCB

fillalph
Just out of curiousity, could you go back to the resolution where you were having the problems, and see if it happens again. If so, apply the patch and let us know what happens? Hehe, just asking ]Bonkers[
