about the new messenger...

i am not sure if this is the correct place to post this...

i installed one the beta version (5.x) of messenger (not a fan though... just to see if there is anything new)

the problem is now i have both 4.x and 5.x version installed. when i start outlook, the 4.x version starts with it. is there a way to start the 5.x version when the outlook begins?

i tried to delete the 4.x one, but then the 5.x refused to start. when i restored the 4.x, the 5.x was working again. (i hope i am not confusing you with alll the 4/5.x stuff).

and another one (which by the way i had asked before but i didnt get an answer), is there a way for the messenger not to start when the outlook begins?

thanks

That's exactly what happened to me. On my next reformat I chose not to reinstall the version 5. It's quite annoying to have 2 messenger programs.

and another one (which by the way i had asked before but i didnt get an answer), is there a way for the messenger not to start when the outlook begins?

To remedy this I use XP-Antispy, it has an option exactly for this: http://www.xp-antispy.de/index.html?/depth.htm

Or... you can:

1. Start Outlook.

2. From the Tools menu, select Options.

3. Select the Other tab.

4. Clear the "Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook" check box in the Instant Messaging section, then click OK.

5. Close and restart Outlook for the change to take effect.

I suppose this works on Outlook. I use Outlook Express.

i searched for something similar but i didnt find anything.

anyway, i think i might leave it as it is for now.

thanks for all the responses.

Yeah I got sick of having it change over everytime I checked my emails using OE. Changed the configs in both so that only MSN messenger would sign on and start everytime I logged in, but couldnt find a work-around for OE so I just went back to normal messenger :)

if u want to use msn messenger only and if you dont want to use windows messenger then just load group policy editor and disable windows messenger

msn messenger 5.0 will still work

:)

sounds like u want that since u said u deleted win messenger

ok. i think i confused you a bit...

in my post i was refering to "windows messenger". i didnt know that msn messenger was something different.sorry.

i have already unchecked the "Automatically log onto Windows Messenger" in outlook express.

what i want is, the windows messenger not to begin (do not confuse with "login") when i execute the outlook express.

thanks.

Why don't you just uninstall messenger - and use trillian?

Here is how:

"How can I remove Windows Messenger?

Open C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf and change msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 to msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,7

Then use Add/Remove Windows Components to remove messenger."

ok

well msn messenger is different then windows messenger

first of all windows messenger is for windows xp only

msn messenger is all computers

msn is for msn services

windows messenger does not work with msn services - or so microsoft thinks :)

ok well first make sure windows messenger does not start with windows

make sure you click "dont start windows messenger" in outlook express

now making sure windows messenger is not loaded using task manager load outlook express

it should not run

if it does then some registry keys are f***ed up

you need to reinstalled windows messenger like this:

Open

C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf

and change

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

to msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,7

i just took the hide out ok

Then use Add/Remove Windows Components to remove messenger."

also why you are at it u can remove all the hides in that file if u wish... you will have more components in add/remove

that should do it

cya,

will
