Disable prompting for Windows Update when new hardware is found in WinXP SP2:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DriverSearching]"DontSearchWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000001

"DontPromptForWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000001

I have gotten pretty far with making my own unattended CD including tons of stuff I have read about on this site, but now I am stumped!

I have searched quite a bit here and I cant seem to find the answer. I have all these reg tweaks that I want to use saved as "setup.reg" and saved in my C:\test\$OEM$\$1\Install folder along with my other programs that are installing correctly. I have actually tried it in a few different folders from what I gathered from posts here and other websites, but I have never seen anyone explain where this is supposed to reside? I have installed quite a few features into my xp install disk so far, but this has me stumped! Thanks in advance, you guys are awesome.

I named it .txt just to post it here, it is .reg (disabled "hide extensions" after my last problem;) within my folder.

setup.txt

Edit...think I figured it out...the search function took some "creative wording" to find what I was looking for!

I ended up placing all these tweaks in my C:\test3\$OEM$\$1\Install folder and called it in my C:\test3\$OEM$\$$\source.bat folder- seems to work great, all the tweaks do what they are supposed to.

Anyone have a tweak to remove the sample files, like the My Music folder and the My Pictures? Maybe I missed it but I have tried!

thanks all for the help---Jeff

Is there a reg tweak that will by default set the screensaver to "none"? I already am using the one that makes the monitor never turn off:

;-----Set power settings to "Presentation"-----
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg]
"CurrentPowerPolicy"="2"

But I'd also like to make it so that with each user's first logon, the screensaver is set to "none". Then they can set one later if they want.

Is there a reg edit that will do that?

That's a really useful tweak, XtremeMaC, but the problem is the Office version you're installing. That tweak would definitely not work for me as I'm using Office XP, which is version 10 of Office. So I'm guessing you're installing Office 2003? :) You have to first find out what Office you're installing and modify that key accordingly.

For example, for Office XP it shoul look like this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook]
"ForcePSTPath"="d:\\Documents\\Mail\\"

Fully Sick. I'll have to check out my little configurations (I have mine set to open to the "Unread Mail" search folder, because I have rulesets applied, I like to still read my mail from the one spot).

Oh, can this be applied before Office is installed?

Muchios appreciatos!
