mott
Anyone know any more info about this? link also, does anyone think it would be possible to replace the dos files on the windows 98 cd with these?
Skyfrog
There was never really a standalone version of MS-DOS 7.1 released. Someone just ripped it from Windows 98 and made it into a standalone installation. As for replacing files from Windows 98 with these, it would be completely pointless since they are the same files. mott
If that's true what's up with this screenshot link if you look at the copyright it says 1999 is it faked?
Skyfrog
Windows 98 SE was released in 1999 actually; however they did do a little hex editing on it in order to get the VER command to report it as MS-DOS 7.10 instead of Windows 98, and that version number (7.10.1999) is totally fake. Skyfrog
Nope. Originally posted by Betaguy9000:Back in 1999, a group wanted to edit a version of Windows 98. This group changed every instance of the number "98" to read "99" (even boot screens, etc.) and was called "Windows 99 Warez Edition" on many underground sites.Windows 99 is not:- an official Microsoft release.- a beta.- supported.- legal.Windows 99 included a few third-party applications. One application replaced notepad. A few others allowed users to have bitmaps as the background of their windows... another allowed the user to have multiple desktops (as seen on a few linux distros).Bottom line:Windows 99 is basically just to impress your friends. If you only want official Microsoft beta releases, don't bother with this.
