Recommended Posts

Before I can support localized version of Windows for Hotfix Downloading, I will need to know the 3 letter code (ENU = English-U.S), as well as the contents of the PRODSPEC.INI file:

;
;Note to user: DO NOT ALTER OR DELETE THIS FILE.
;
[SMS Inventory Identification]
Version=1.0

[Product Specification]
Product=Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

Version=5.0
Localization=English
ServicePackNumber=0
BitVersion=40
[Version]
DriverVer=10/01/2002,5.2.3790.0

I already have this informatin for English, French, German, Czech and Dutch. If you have any other language versions, please post them here.

Hi GreenMachine,

I read your request for prodspec.ini files in other languages and thought I migth give you something in return for your great work with XPC!

So I browsed my MSDN collection and copied all prodspec's I discovered. (see attached zip-file. They are sorted in directories just as found on the DVD's)

Additionally I found some abbreviations for languages:

       ARA     Arabic
       CS      Czech
       DA      Danish
       NL      Dutch
       FI      Finnish
       FR      French

       ES      Spanish
       SV      Swedish
       CHT     Chinese (Traditional)

Hello GreenMachine,

here are some links off german hotfixes for Windows XP-Pro.

The links differ in more than the country-code "DEU" from the english ones.

This is NOT correct, it counts ONLY for the multilingual pack!

e.g.: For Dutch it is 'NLD'

Hi,

The thing I've found is that:

- For microsoft.com website translations, usually the two letter language abbreviation is used (but sometimes three). However, for the actual hotfixes, they use the three letter language code.

Ex:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;ger;828741

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;sv;828741

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;fr;828741

- For hotfixes, I have not seen one yet (unless it was multilanguage / language independent) that did not use the three letter code, like:

WindowsXP-KB828741-x86-ENU.EXE

I think the important thing here is the contents of the PRODSPEC.INI file, which should be easy for someone to send GM (unless of course they don't think it's worth the effort to allow their language to be supported :)) hehee.

Thanks, frankiboy_01, that compliation was most helpfull. That gives me most, but I am still missing some pieces for Japanese, Korean, Chineese Simplified, Traditional and Taiwan, Arabic and Hebrew. Some of those in the list were simply listed as English. Strange ...

Thanks to you as well, Ice M., and welcome to MSFN!

In fact, I need both the more standard 3 letter code, as well as the 2, sometimes 5, lettter code. (FR, or EN-US. Gotta love them standards ... )

For all that are willing to help, I attach a small utility that will help build the Hotfix Download List from the files on your PC. To use it you must:

  • Extract the files MAKELIST.CMD and MD5.EXE to the directory whre XPCREATE is installed.
  • Download the failsafe list of hotfixes for your locale.
  • Run MAKELIST.CMD
  • Edit the resulting XPCTHLST.TXT file, replacing the DOWNLOADLINKHERE text with the correct link to each file.
  • Post your file in this thread, or send the file to Virindi for inclusoin on the Web Site.
  • Test, test, and test again ...

Hi GreenMachine,

I thought I added the languages you still are missing. Really strange! But I must telll, I just made the compilation and did not check / open the files. :) Especially Chinese, Japanese and Korean are on several CD's! Perhaps tomorrow I will check these CD's again to find out whether they differ.

Greetings

Frank

Yes, strange. Perhaps there is a reason it is listed as English. For now, I will wait until someone with one of those versions wants to work with me to solve the issues, and there does not seem to be a lot of users concerned ...

Ice M. Same time posted - perhaps you will edit your's to include the attachment!

The rest of you: please make a XPCTHLST file for your language, and post it!

... If anyone cares to test the German XP Pro version with XPCTEST, now'd be the time!

I've just tested it. There were two errors.

1. For Q831167.exe I posted the download link for the XP64 Version

The correct entry must be:

ADD SVC-HF2\Q831167.exe http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/c/6/7c6cc370-d3e3-4b23-a035-4e9518a64298/Q831167.exe 912F6985247362045C6C4C39DE2326A1

2. Your script brought up an syntax error processing "WindowsMedia9-KB837272-x86-DEU", maybe a wrong command line switch?

Greetings

Ice M.

The Windows Media file is incorrect. It should be WindowsMedia9-KB837272-DEU.exe, and not WindowsMedia9-KB837272-x86-DEU.exe. I believe that is the WIN9X Version. I have the file, and the checksum, but not the link. Perhaps someone can find it in WIndowsUpdate.log? As soon as it is posted, I will update the server.

Thanks again, Ice M. One down, a bunch more to go!

All the english versions are up, although only XP Pro. 2000 Server and 2003 Enterprise Server have been tested. There is certainly at least one error in th XP Home edition, so if someone tests it, please try to find the correct files, most notably the help update.

Still waiting on volunteers for the localized versions!

Hi there

Found this for WindowsMedia9-KB837272-DEU

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/WindowsMedia9-KB837272-DEU_f965653aa48671556380e19b8135678.exe

MD5
ac5b5a1a1179a44099fa3630f256dc62

also Q831167.exe isn't updated yet

as stated by Ice M.

ADD SVC-HF2\Q831167.exe http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/c/6/7c6cc370-d3e3-4b23-a035-4e9518a64298/Q831167.exe 912F6985247362045C6C4C39DE2326A1

The new DirectX90-KB839643-x86-DEU.EXE is here:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/DirectX90-KB839643-x86-DEU_18c6639ae8f32fe6fc0e0318957a1fd.EXE

MD5:
760505b94571aa9991d67f0d71c7ef6a

when the hotfixes were downloaded, the script deleted my localy stored XPCTHLST.TXT, this isn't very polite. (especially for a stupid like me, who knows it, but still makes no backup)

and there was a discrepancy at this time

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--  0:52:21 -- Repacking setup.exe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEMP\EXTRCMSI\MICROS~1.MSI
1 Datei(en) kopiert
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--  0:52:54 -- Updating Windows Messenger.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the cmd output said something like :

"dir not empty"

"PACKMSI already exists "

PACKMSI\MICROS~1.MSI is setup.exe is journalviewer and it's reproducible

will check the xpsetup tomorrow.

have had similar case with the official version. that time there was a problem with mdac2.8 and msxml. i didn't care to much and just put mdac+hf back to cmdtxt. (of course I didn't keep the logs)

however this tool is great

@ente: Thanks for the info, and welcome to MSFN! I've updated the server, perhaps you can test? (I cannot.)

Sorry to delete your file, but that is behaviour by design. I debated it, but I want to insure I always have a list from the Server. You could turn DLAUTO to NO ...

The descrepency you are seeing is because inside the file SETUP.EXE is the MSI installer named Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer", or as I prefer, MICROS~1.

I am not sure about the directory not empty message. There can be conflicts with file creation and deletion and certain antivirus type software.

I've updated the test version to do, once again, more logging. If the problem persists, try this version, and post your logfiles.

Thanks for the help, and let me know if the list is OK.

Mach's gut.
