How about Ares or Soulseek? If it wasn't for Soulseek I wouldn't have had half the music I have now because of the rarity of my music (I live in Norway and I lsiten to underground hip-hop from all across the world). Ares has gotten laggy latly tho.

KCEasy - A multi-network p2p client that uses the giFT engine (didn't work properly for me, I think my NAT is messing it up)
Ares - A KaZaA like direct-download p2p app (gotten laggy tho)
KaZaA-Lite (Ressurection) - No doubt the most famous underground p2p app
eMule/eDonkey - Seems excellent but I never got it to work properly for me
Gnutella - I wish this network would be the reigning p2p network :( Would be so much easier
SoulSeek - A must have for all underground cats (doesn't matter what genre you're in to)
Azureus - This is my prefered BitTorrent app (uses Java) :)
Zultrax - Never tried this one but it looks interesting ;)

Hope this list helps. Ofcourse there are plenty more p2p apps out there. A good starting point for p2p is Zeropaid.

Newsgroups.
The best.

Beats anything else on speed pants down. Maxes out your bandwith easily,
no uploading whilst downloading (teh ultimate leech) thus more secure.

Not really easy to find stuff always but its well worth the hassle.
Also, older stuff might be harder to find.

And a smart guy dont rely on one app. only imo.

I've just started using NewsLeecher myself and WOW, 450-510 KB/s constant. NewsLeecher & BitComet (DHT Network Trackerless download feature), pwnz.

Torrents seems best. Using bitcommet client now. have the option to select files from a album instead of downloading the entire album. I havent come across any client that can do this. If i', wrong correct me.

Tried dc++, but different hubs have different rules and share limits.

Havent uses ShareAza. will try it when i find time.

i've tested many many p2p apps, see my sig. currently I'm using:
cabos for small files.
bitcomet for all big and new files.
eMule for all old and rare files.

ED2K Network (been using eDonky before but switched to eMule recently because it is a lot faster at downlaoding, it takes up less ressources and overall bandwith - when browsing the web etc)

otherwise, I sometimes use Bittornado or ABC with multiple torrents
