SFC keeps prompting for disk

Recommended Posts

My unattend xp install runs great until one day i decide to run system file checker.

I put my i386 dir in $OEM$\$1 so it would be copied to my C:\ after the install then i added gosh's info to a reg file

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
"SourcePath"="%systemroot%"
"ServicePackSourcePath"="%systemroot%"

But when ever i run SFC it cant find the folder and keeps prompting for the cd.

Shouldnt SFC be able to get the files from the i386 dir? :)

Thanks

Well...SFC is using Windows\System32\DllCache folder.

Did you maybe deleted that folder or maybe disabled it's full creation from winnt.sif or regs ?

In winnt.sif check for

[SystemFileProtection]
   SFCQuota=0
   SFCScan=0
   SFCDisable=ffffff9d

Ahha! found it...

;Disable Windows File Protection
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogonAdd]
"SFCDisable"=dword:FFFFFF9D

Thats the only reg file i found though.

not even sure if i should use SFC :)

I doubt that reg is the cause without hacked sfc_os.dll

But if you want total control over your os, disable sfc completely (search for it)

If you are a beginner or don't reinstall windows often leave it on.

And why even use that reg (SourcePath,ServicePackSourcePath), windows installs it's own regs for dllcache path and cd source...why tamper (if you want working sfc)

well i didnt touch the sfc_os.dll and took out the

;Disable Windows File Protection
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogonAdd]
"SFCDisable"=dword:FFFFFF9D

And it works...

And

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
"SourcePath"="%systemroot%"
"ServicePackSourcePath"="%systemroot%"

Is from gosh's guide for making a flat....i didnt know sfc used Windows\System32\DllCache folder

EDIT: nevermind sfc still doesnt work, nothing i can see wrong in my winnt.sif file

Try without that gosh's tweak...it must work.

edit: unless the missing/tampered file is not part of dllcache, then you need cd, but those are rare, as you can see that folder is quite big
