pdmcmahon
First off, I know this pic is from W2K, it is what I use at work. My question is, what line or registry key to I insert in unattended reg keys to turn off these stupid desktop effects in Windows XP. I would prefer to disable them in the registry as that is where the rest of my customizations are happeneing. They are annoying resource hogs. I cannot seem to find any posts on this as of yet. Plllllllllllllllllllllease hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhelp!!!!PEACE!
Exodia
You want to disable all of the "visual effects" right? Thats been a pain in the a** to do for most since some settings dont apply to all. Have a look here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...=visual+effects someone has posted their reg tweaks for visual effects. Also do a search for "visual effects" in this part of the forum and the "windows xp" section.
pdmcmahon
Thanks for the fast reply, unfortunately I think that covers the 15 or 20 visual effects that you can get to by going to My Computer \ Properties \ Advanced \ Visual Effects. I am talking about the effects such as fade-in and fade-out on right click, etc.Any ideas, or did I maybe just not see it in that link you sent? jrzycrim
System Propteries | Advanced | Performance | Settings | Visual Effects is where that particular effect can be disabled: Fade or Slide Menus into View and Fade out Menu Items after ClickingWhich other effects do etc. refer to?Edit: Most of the effects your looking for can be found in the following Reg Key:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]Icon Size:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]Value Name: "Shell Icon Size" (32 is the value for small icons, 48 for large)Hide Underlined Letters for Keyboard Navigation[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]Value Name: "UserPreferencesMask"
pdmcmahon
I am referring to the 6 effects listed under display properties \ appearance \ effects. See the screenshot. I guess the biggest one that bugs me is the transition feature.
jrzycrim
If you export the following two keys from your registry and include them in your registry tweaks for your Unattended Install, you should be set.[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]Any HKEY_CURRENT_USER settings applied during GUIRunOnce or RunOnceEx will not stick. They should be applied from cmdlines.txt or at any point before the first logon.

Rhino
Hmm... I've triede exporting both keys (...\Desktop & ...\Advanced) - then disabling the option 'Use the following transition...' which had 'Fade effect' on ... then exporting both keys again and compared with the first set and I don't see any difference. The reason I need this specific option is not only creating an unattented XP CD but also when I use Cubase SX it automatically turns it on ... very weird ... and I hate it . Need at key to simply turn it of when done with Cubase SX. Thx

matthewk
The thread smc linked will cover the other options. See the reg file that someone posted there. This is all I found on the alt underline options.
