XP on the ASRock N100DC-ITX

Hi,

I just make an nvme boot of XP SP3 on this nice board with the N100 cpu. I use the Intel nvme driver for this on the Toshiba RD400.

After install of all drivers, boottime is 10sec. Power is always about 6 Watt. Geekbench 2.4.3 shows 8033 Points.

PS/2 works for the mouse together with the keyboard via y-cable. 2 Sata 600 MB/s connectors.

The board has Rj45 Realtek Lan 8168, COM1 port, LPT1 port, USB2,3, PCIe connector for graphikcard, I use Geforce GT 730, Realtek sound 867, M2 for Wifi, M2 for nvme and with my mod also CSM for XP boot. You can use any 12...19 Volt DC-source.

For Bios CSM mod, copy to an Fat32 USB stick all the content of my file (see downwards), select the USB stick via fs0:  (for example) or fs1:

and then for to flash my CSM Bios 1.06 via

fpt -f bios.rom

No risk in this Bios flash, because you can always flash back the original Bios 1.06 from website of Asrock.

It is one of the most stable boards I have. Just now I copy about 1000 Gbyte via USB3. All drivers for XP I have for this board from summer 2023.

No crash, no error, no go down to slow speed as I always notice on all the z690, z790 boards for USB3

Congratulations for another successful BIOS modding!
Your reverse engineering skills are really impressive!

Integrated UHD Graphics, no driver?

Write speed is so low, 738 MB/s, why?
Why don't you use latest CrystalDiskMark 8.0.5, it works OK in Win-XP?
May I ask you for few more speed tests, if possible, (with faster SSD), just for general comparison?

Try to shrink your SSD XP system partition and make new (NTFS) partition on the end, (split SSD on 2, or more, partitions), then run CrystalDiskMark on both partitions and make 2 pictures.
(I mostly use MiniTool-Partition-Wizard for disk management and works OK.)

Then try same test, on same board, same SSD(if possible), but with Windows-10 and make 2 pictures.
Please post all 4 results or 4 pictures..

From my experience, NVME can never get full max-top-speed on Win-XP, on system-partition, and can not understand why? And if you change NVME-driver, results are totally different. Could proper NVME-driver for XP and/or TRIM solve this mystery? Any dependencies to "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" possible for Win-XP?
(Does exist any Crucial NVME driver, (T700, T705), for XP?)

Very cool, Dietmar rocks! Please tell, does the drifting bug persist, like in Vista when sometimes not services are started. Thanks.

@D.Draker

Until now, on really ALL boards that I have and any OS, I notice the going downspeed of any USB after copying about 40 Gbyte,

to a speed of about 10MByte/s.

On this nice ASRock N100DC-ITX this does not happen.

So, Intel makes something different in its hardware for USB

I noticed that, too! Dietmar, by any chance do you edit GPU BIOS? Need to change RGB values. Thank you

Hi Dietmar,

ich bin selber Eigentümer eines N100DC-ITX und interessiere mich für deinen CSM Biosmod. Leider ist der Download expired.

Kannst Du den noch mal wo hochladen? Gibt es auch ne Version in der das Biosmenü funktioniert?

Hi Dietmar,

What an amazing result and this BIOS mod..! I am well impressed. I must also try it myself :). I am just right before purchasing the same board. Can you please provide link for this BIOS mod? The old link are not working anymore.

Thanks!

Hi Dietmar,

Thanks for the quick response. That's unfortunate ufile.io not working.
For now can you please upload it to my NAS drive: "LINK REMOVED"
There is an upload button on the top right corner.
