Hi there

i just installed macromedia flash mx

and very interestingly all my cd/dvd rom drives are gone

hahah how nice? none of my cdroms work now, not even the virtual ones

i tried sfc scan guess what it wants a cd.

it asks for the sp2 cd, i have the cd but not any of the files, i had deleted the iso image that i made for it. i've the sp1 and sp2.exe but that'll be too boring..

is there anyway around this?

what could have gotten corrupted? cdrom.sys? inf?

help ( --> where is that cry emoticon :D

:)

all the cdroms have exclamation mark in device manager

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

edit: I've started to unpack sp1 iso with winrar. but it'll prompt me to insert the cd.

aaaaa annoying!!

don't have system restore and even if i did have it i wouldn't have created a check point or whatever its called...

yea uninstall hmm why did i not think of that, well okay trying..

ow also i dunno if this would be causing anything but yesterday i dled the windows update file which said "this update removes all the previous update files" @ 2055. and this was the 1st time i restarted (bc flash asked me to restart)

Try downloading nero and installing the nerodrive for a virtual drive.

You don't by chance use NTI cd maker do you? I uninstalled that once and it took out all my optical drives with it. I had to re-install it to get my optical drives back.

Have you thought about deleting the enum key in the registry and have it re-discover the hardware? (I have a feeling it still woudln't work)

Then there's this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;314060

okay solved it :)

i did several things at the same time so i don't really know which one worked

1st i removed all my cdroms

2. copied the cdrom.inf releated files from the xp sp2 exe to a folder along with the inf,

3. installed the inf

4. followed http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;314060 & deleted lowerfilter and upperfilter...

restarted and my drives are back

well okay now i solved it but what could have possibly caused it?
