External Enclosure PROBLEMS!

I have a ME-320 BYTECC external enclosure, I have put a WD 160 gig HD in this, was working like a champ the first few days, then suddenly it decided it doesn't want

to even f***ing reliaze it's even PLUGGED IN!, this is a USB 2.0/Firewire...so I have tried both, they both don't work.

The HD spins, the light is on, the fan spins on the external case, yet....windows doesn't realize it's plugged in, I even checked the USB power options, it isn't even

sending power to USB

WTF is going on? I am on WinXP and do have Firewire and USB 2.0...and has worked JUST FINE the last few days!!! HELP!

P.S. this is the 2nd time this has happened, SAME problem, I have RMA'd the last one

CLIFFS

1) have BYTECC ME-320 External Enclosure

2) WD 160 HD is in it

3) Worked fine the last few days, now Windows doesn't recognize it's even plugged in

4) USB/Firewire on it is not working

5) Light is on, HD spins, Fan spins, windows doesn't realize it's there

6) 2nd time it's happened SAME problem, 1st was RMA'd to Newegg

7) Tried on 2 friends computers doesn't work

8) Tried swapping HD...doesn't work

9) tested HD ...HD no problems

Seems to me like thier is a problem with the specific enclosure you are using. If it works for a few days then stops working, but the hard drive works fine by itself, the enclosure is bad. You said you RMA'd the last one since it was doing the same thing? I would suggest trying a different brand or model.

I'm using Caloptic.com's Speedzter 3 & Speedzter 5 for more than 1 years. no problem so far. had a problem with the hdd, they replaced it in a sec .

the new speedzter 3 they have with firewire 800 seems niiiiiice!

i'd suggest rma and request your money back and buy caloptic..!!!!

i found that at $50 usb2 + firewire right? why'd u buy a combo if u didn't want to pay much? caloptics is $100 for combo

for the sake of no problems i paid twice as much. that's like buying a car. if u buy from a brand thats not so popular, and u buy it bc its cheaper, u'll pay twice as much to get it repaired. save money if u're not in a hurry then buy the good one that's known to not cause much problems, well that's my logic....yea i pay more but less hassle afterwards....

well i did a bit of searching and ppl seem to have no problems with it. maybe the company u bough it from is not as good? though newegg is good...

edit:

i dunno if this is going to make any sense to u but maybe the electricity f's it up? maybe the voltage goes up and down too much and the adaptar cannot process that? do u have a UPS? if the voltage is too much it might be getting fried..?
