I have interest in ACPI, Windows XP running on newer hardware. But the problem is that the sound is not working.

Can I edit inf to add a string? Afraid that there will be many problems.

For example, my Hardware code

If I can, I'll give it a try.

After you have installed the Realtek driver,

disable and then enable again the Microsoft UAA driver in system devices

Dietmar

Thanks I'm going to try it next week with around 80 GB hard disk to do some more testing without disturbing my main system.

@tpao12

May be the most easy test is to disable all the NVIDIA drivers in Device Manager in Sound,

because I see, that you have there Realtek and Nvidia.

XP may choose the Nvidia driver for sound,

so you hear nothing

@Dietmar Please allow me to go off topic. I have a question that I didn't ask you. I've noticed my NVME trying to read the disk and it might freeze. Based on testing, is there a better option for MS drivers?

For example, the Kai-Schtrom NVMe driver.
Which version should I use with XP v1.3 or 1.5?
I saw this option of Ramsey.

I tried installing this on XP SP3 x86 and nothing seemed to change.
My portcls.sys is 5.1.2600.1364.
My hdaudbus.sys and hdaudio.sys are both 5.10.1.5013.

Is that right?
:dubbio:

I changed the portcls.sys file to 5.1.2600.5566. You can try to find the file in the update folder, go to the update.ver file and try deleting the version string file.
and try again

It looks like kb835221 is an older file than kb888111.
5.10.0.5010 (form year 2004)

5.10.1.5013 form year 2005

Yes, the file has been changed to version 5.10.1.5013.
