I don't think @feodor2 reads this thread. It was opened by a member. Therefore this thread is not an official one. If you have a request or whatever, you have to do that on GitHub. Here is a link to the issues: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues

It reads, but there are so many problems with the browser that it repairs in order of importance:
D3D9 H/A
WASM (new ublock support)
crashs
......

Indeed...  I am getting the occasional win32k.sys BSOD.

Some weeks ago, @mina7601 reported an issue on GitHub relating to DevianArt. Its website was refusing to load in Mypal 68. And greyrat116 posted a solution to solve this problem. The variable layout.css.resizeobserver.enabled has to be set to true. Thank you, greyrat116 = @grey_rat ?, for posting this solution! The issue is closed now. Why do I mention this here? When posting an article or a comment in this forum, or an issue on GitHub, I love to use some animated gifs. The last time when I reported an issue on GitHub, I used one of these gifs. Here is the link to this issue: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/96
In New Moon 28, I had no problem to load this site and the animated gif was loading correctly either. But in Mypal 68, this site was loaded without showing that gif. Try it! Setting layout.css.resizeobserver.enabled to boolean value true solves this problem. Background: The ResizeObserver interface reports changes to the dimensions of an Element's content or border box, or the bounding box of an SVGElement. Anyway, thanks again to @mina7601 and presumably @grey_rat ( if my identification is correct, I'm not a Sherlock Holmes!) for posting and solving this issue!

Cheers, AstroSkipper img.gif

You're welcome!

I will make those changes, but, I can only assume I've not experienced the issue others have noted, is because I disable wasm and all hardware acceleration and don't use d3d9 or d3d11 either ... so I'm not having any issues thus far with this new build. I limit the processes to only 2 and disable performance. Don't go by me, because I'm dealing with age old (failing) hardware so I've had to go very basic; but good luck getting these features to work for a more enhanced experience.

In Firefox 68, for one process, it was necessary to disable the option and add two files to the folders where Firefox is located.
In MyPal he did it differently. If you press Alt+Ctrl+del and open multiple tabs, 2 processes will be displayed.

Youtube is trying to stream video in AV1 codec, it's hard for processors without SSSE3, SSE4, AVX. Additionally  https://www.reddit.com/r/AV1/comments/b3bcft/firefox_nightly_now_uses_dav1d_021/

It is advisable to disable media.av1.enabled and media.rdd-process.enabled

OpenGL it somehow works with ATI, with Nvidia it's bad, with Intel it's very bad.

Slightly reduce memory consumption if: browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory - true, layers.async-pan-zoom.enabled - false, layers.omtp.enabled - false, dom.ipc.processCount 1-3. But it is for slow computers. Fast computers will lose in performance

Hmmm ... I had async as follows enabled.

layers.async-pan-zoom.enabled;true

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.async-animations;true

I've changed them and have been watching YT without any problems.

Thanks for the advice!

...This doesn't make sense, ANGLE enables D3D9/D3D11 output (only former usable on XP), with "webgl.disable-angle" set to true, OpenGL is used, not D3D9 or D3D11.

Ah ... no wonder - as I totally disable webgl. See what I mean?! I'm mainly using this for testing as others here are trying to make things work on mypal while I'm going basic with a limited/crippled experience.

layers.prefer-opengl;false

I'll likely watch and keep track quietly unless I have a major issue going forward.

Thanks Fedor.  I will figure out why my Windows XP is not producing dumps on BSOD, and when I fix it, I will post mine per your instructions here.

What about SSE3/SSE4.x build please??  The audio from Youtube streams gets choppy when browsing in a different tab...  Mypal performance would really benefit with such a build in XP.

  • 3 weeks later...

Many thanks for this informative thread. My technical knowledge is very limited and I'd very much appreciate any advice you have on a MyPal 68 problem.

I'm running Win XP Pro SP3 32-Bit (I couldn't see this option in the reg drop-down menu). I've been using MyPal 18.9.3 very happily for more than a year. Yesterday I heard about the new version and downloaded MyPal 68.12.4b. I copied the folder (renamed MyPal 68) to Program Files but when I click on the exe no website will open. I just see a blank page with an endlesly spinning progress wheel in the middle. Eventually I tried a private window and every website opened with no problems.

With Google I found that some Firefox users had the same problem in the past, as referenced here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1178369

I tried the same fixes:

Reinstall FireFox -
Change my security settings to allow FireFox any form of communication
Change Proxy settings
Disabling DNS prefetch
Clearing all data (cookies, cache, etc.) -
Disabled IPv6 - Last but not least I restarted my computer.

but none of the solutions worked. I have no extensions installed. My internet settings are the same as I use in MyPal 18.9.3 (no proxy). MyPal 68 is greenlighted in Zone Alarm.

I also use Serpent/Basilisk and Firefox 51 with no connection problems.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try to disable ZA temporarily (completely!) and check Windows XP built-in firewall if it is active and interfering. Sometimes, it helps to set an exclusion in Windows XP built-in firewall either.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there's no change with Zone Alarm shut down and the Windows firewall has always been completely disabled.

Please, provide information about your hardware and the update state of your Windows XP! Have all POSReady updates until 2019 already been installed?

Thanks, @feodor2. I haven't had any bsod, but I disable things (webgl, wasm and such) by default, using mostly the standard user.js for ff68 from https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js.  This may help singling out the source of trouble. Be well. Thanks for this.

Yes, all present and correct. Now I think of it though, last month I couldn't get iTunes to connect to the UK Apple store. After much Googling I found that enabling TLS 1.2 on Windows XP had fixed the problem for some people. I used the exe and registry file on this page:

https://www.smartftp.com/sk-sk/support/kb/2754

and the problem was fixed. However, I don't know what TLS is or what other effects enabling it might have had. I made a disk image before doing anything but there seemed to be no problems.
