I already have the latest bios available 2020 the driver PS2 i8042prt.sys of XP is less recent of the driver in POS 2009 Ready? Edited December 19, 2024 by casey

I had the same problem with another asrock board: On 12/19/2024 at 1:00 AM, casey said: I confirm, With USB Keyboard and Mouse, everything works, but when I connected a PS2 peripheral (or keyboard or mouse) and I reboot, xp freezes. How can I solve this problem? Yea, it is exactly the same in WinXP 64-bit on Intel Gen 8 desktop, but I don't know if it's acpi.sys fault: restart does not work in a mini-setup and WinXP installed. When the mini-setup finishes, the computer gets stuck on the black screen with the mouse cursor - then you need to turn off the computer by holding the POWER button longer on the case. On WinXP installed you need to use the Turn Off option and then turn on the computer again If PS/2 keyboard connected - WinXP 64-bit no reboot - stuck on Windows is shutting down... but only in UEFI mode - in Legacy (CSM only) no problem. There is no problems with the USB keyboard and USB mouse and WinXP 64-bit is restarting correctly in UEFI and Legacy mode :-)
casey Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I tried to install Windows XP with the F7 key to have it without ACPI and check if the freeze problem on restart when using PS/2 keyboard or mouse is resolved, but the problem continues, so the problem is not due to the acpi.sys file do you have any idea how I can solve it? I'm a perfectionist, and although I can use usb keyboard and mouse to avoid freezee, I would still like to understand how to solve the problem with you and make XP still usable on any PC.

casey Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I just pointed out that acpi.sys is not responsible for the freeze problem when using the PS/2 port on new motherboards. If anyone wants to open another thread to try to solve this problem too, I'm available for testing, unfortunately I speak English with a translator, and I could write things that are difficult to understand. I wanted to ask you another question, but is this acpi.sys file from dietmar better in all cases than the original acpi.sys file from XP SP3? or your old motherboard is it better to use the original?
Dietmar Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) @casey If the modded acpi.sys is better than the original acpi.sys from XP SP3 depends on for what you use it. When you have a notebook, I think in any case the modded one is the better choice. When you run win10 on your compi, you may see some more devices in Device Manager, because of the OS hack in this modded acpi.sys. In most cases for a desktop compi before 2015, you will see no difference at all. I just test this on a Lenovo Q180 from 2012 with D2550 cpu and AMD Radeon 6450 , same result Dietmar Edited December 22, 2024 by Dietmar
reboot12 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) @Dietmar But modded acpi.sys is also required by modded USB3 drivers - right? Edited December 22, 2024 by reboot12
Dietmar Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) @reboot12 No. The original acpi.sys works with USB3. The modded acpi.sys is only needed, because most compis with USB3 have acpi tables >1.b, which means unknown opcode for the original acpi.sys from XP SP3 Dietmar PS: I just test on the Lenovo Q180 above. This compi has USB3 and it works with any USB3 driver (Renesas, AMD 145 from Daniel, USB3 from @Mov AX, 0xDEAD ) and the original acpi.sys from XP SP3. Edited December 22, 2024 by Dietmar
reboot12 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 @Dietmar But I use USB3 drivers from George King and with original acpi.sys have error Code 10 in Device Manager - https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/winxp-64-bit-on-a-modern-pc-iso-boot-wim-install-wim.88435/page-7#post-1865200
Dietmar Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) @reboot12 Yes. This is a crazy behavior of the underlying DSDT table. In summer 2019 we check everything for XP SP3 about USB3 on modern compi. And we can see, that the nearly only reason, why there was no USB3 on modern compis, is a crazy sleeping order in DSDT. All manufacturers try to put XP out of the market and so they come to this "genius" idea. This comes together with acpi2.0 version. But it does not depend on acpi.sys itself. But for to overcome this sleeping order, you have to use the modded acpi.sys or to modd the DSDT in Bios for to get a working USB3 Dietmar Edited December 22, 2024 by Dietmar 1
reboot12 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 @Dietmar Thanks for the explanation - but all in all you need a modified acpi.sys to make USB3 drivers work.
Dietmar Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) @reboot12 For XP SP3 bit32 you can also use https://msfn.org/board/topic/179059-acpi-patcher-at-boot-time/#comment-1165701 https://github.com/MovAX0xDEAD/ACPI-Patcher for to use a modded DSDT during boottime. No modd in Bios itself! This is a crazy effective way, for to start any compi with original acpi.sys. Until now, I do not see a single compi, where this methode does not work. But it is only for XP SP3 bit32 until now. Would be a nice project, to enable this also for XP SP2 bit64. We have to ask @Mov AX, 0xDEAD for help for this Dietmar Edited December 22, 2024 by Dietmar
reboot12 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 @Dietmar You right - USB3 works with original acpi.sys in old machine - I test WinXP 64-bit in ESXi:
Svyatpro Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Can anyone help me installing WinXP on Dell Precision M4800? I have a black screen after "The setup is starting Windows" at text installation mode. Tried different ACPI.SYS, IDE/AHCI modes - nothing helps
