I remember Visual Studio 2008 GUI was the most pleasant in my eyes. This one won't do modern .NET though, 2.0 was enough for my needs back then. 2015 is the oldest version that targets current VC redist for native C/C++ stuff. Apologies for my rambling and not anything more specific. Code is PITA to figure out, never mind the bells and whistles of the development environment.
