Winxptwker
Your talking about the Frequently used programs list? If so, you must have implemented a registry hack that disables it.This is what controls the FMU list:;Disable Frequently used programs list[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList"=dword:00000001

Winxptwker
your welcome. To enable the list, import this hack:;Disable Frequently used programs list[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList"=dword:00000000Basically replace the 1 at the end of the code with another 0. cow
i'm bringing up this old topic again because i have the same problem and nobody seems to be able to fix this issue. i've searched the forums for a long time, and i'm assuming there is some registry tweak that has turned this menu off, but i cannot find it.;Disable Frequently used programs list[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList"=dword:00000000this does nothing. i've searched my entire regtweaks.reg file and don't see anything that pertains to this issue, but i'm assuming there must be something in there i have overlooked. any ideas? theubergeek
I also have this problem. I did not use nlite to install XP, but I did do it unattended. I had imported some registry tweaks, but I have not been able to find one that hints at disabling the menu. Anyone else know of a fix?
horsecharles
¿¿¿¿¿ http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startmfu.htm ????????¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ http://www.theeldergeek.com/exclude_progra..._start_menu.htm ?????and i doubt if the following was added to each/all programs in registry: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284198And another idea: Wesley VogelNoStartMenuMFUprogramsList is added by gpedit.msc if you have XP Pro. Ifyou don't have the key that shouldn't be the problem. No key means youshould have the MFU programs list.Try this...Remove frequent programs list from the Start MenuRight click the Start button | Properties | Customize button |General tab | Under Programs | Set Number of programs onStart menu to 0 (zero) | Click the Clear List button | OK |Apply | OKReboot.Right click the Start button | Properties | Customize button |General tab | Under Programs | Set Number of programs onStart menu to more than zero | OK | Apply | OKSee if you start getting programs added to the list.[[Most Frequently Used list displays programs based on how often they areused. If you remove a program from the list, the computer resets its usagecount to zero. When the program is used again, it gains usage points and itcan reappear in the Most Frequently Used list.]]--Hope this helps. theubergeek
Thank you horsecharles, you have solved it! My problem wasn't with the "NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList" entry, as it was not there. It was the "NoInstrumentation" entry that was causing it.

LLXX
You really think someone would come back after nearly two years and look for his solution? This thread has been revived two times BTW...
