Updated browser list for Windows XP

Recommended Posts

@CIXERT i have some very strange 360 Extreme Explorer Behavior when i run this program it exits very fast.

Although i have a lot of memory (over 1 Gigabyte) and adequate space (for windows xp sp3) on the hard disk.

I have added parameters that Dixel said which help the browser to run on low end machines.

Nothing happen after all these.

I also made restrictions for the incoming calls in the firewall for the file.

The same thing happen.

Recently i wanted to change the IDE mode into AHCI so i had to change the driver.

The machine showed a blue screen at the boot of windows because i didn't installed it well.(Installed the .inf of IDE instead of the SCSI .inf in a SCSI RAID configuration).

So i decided to boot into safe mode.

I saw that in the boot options there was the safe mode with network and i thought it was a good idea to chose it.

When i entered inside windows i thought that it was a good idea for the browsers to work (i use chromium 49).

Except for to use another browser such as 360 Extreme Explorer and finally i was rewarded the browser for the first time

worked. It is a fast to very fast browser and has a lot of options i managed to be good with the Russian menus and i changed

many parameters(such as the way the sites are loaded the technology that allows fast downloading and WEBGL 2.0 also).

When i entered the site www.clivetownsend.com in the online section it started for the first time to load WEBGL 2.0 through

Unity Personal Edition when it reached the end it complained about problems with java.

What was wrong?

The java plugin is missing or the site didn't load fast as it should and needed some more parameters for acceleration inside

the browser?

Recently i runt again the 360 Extreme Explorer and it exited fast.

What is wrong?

I wait for your answer.

@Mr.Scienceman2000 Netsurf is the browser for a nearly extinct species: Amiga users! It's nice to have small browsers that still get updates like Netsurf around, but on Windows XP there are more alternatives. The Pentium 3 is more than enough for Netsurf, using only 15 MB RAM here. The TLS-updated Netscape 9 with 25 MB has a better compatibility and customisability however (my prefered choice on Windows 98 computers and weak Windows XP systems, like the 400 MHz Celeron). New Moon (NoSSE or SSE-only) would be the next step to try out, but that gives the 20-year old machine a tough time on some sites.

NetSurf's native environment is actually RISC OS. NetSurf on Amiga is actually a port.

The website www.clivetownsend.com works perfectly for me. I have Java 8 uptate 25 installed in Windows XP (compilation 1.8.0_25-b18).
It is better that you consult the specific forum for the 360 browser.

I want to say something strange about WEBGL.

I have a system with pentium 4 processor (cedar mill) and 2GB of main memory.

I managed to run it in windows xp with the maxthon browser (version 5.3.8.2000).

It was an unexpected surprise for me but not really because maxthon is based on chromium 69 witch supports webgl(since 56 version).

I located the secret of this and possibly in other chromium versions witch is the memory buffer of the TCP/IP.

Which means that if you increase it and give it a value of outgoing buffers 200 and receiving

500 then the webgl will work (with the webgl parameters activated in the flags section and of course all hardware accelaration deactivated.

In other cases it projects the error Uncaught data file loading error when the bar reaches

the end.I don't know if the TCP/IP window in xp has to do with this but i will try to increase it.

I thought I would add links to 2 additional browsers , which are not up to date, although they do work on XP and for the sake of completeness, maybe somebody would be interested in seeing if they could update / improve on them as per whatever needs to be done and considering the Tobin situation, all potential alternatives may be in order to mention.

Here is the link to a 32 bit version of IceCat that was posted several years ago in this forum:

IceCat
xp build of 52.3.0

Here is the link to a build of IceWeasel that requires the not so functional Iceweasel-53.0.en-US.xpi addon to render some of the Chinese into English:

@Cixcert and et al -

I have been using the Opera 12.18_45 Russian built browser and so far I think it works very well and has more feature rich tweaking of everything than I have ever see in any other build of any browser and I have yet to explore all of the available tweaking which is not well translated into English as of yet.

There *is* an English language file included which during the first time I opening the browser, I couldn't find the setting for, since everything appeared in Russian Cyrillic.

I went into the installation folder (locale) language sub-folders and disabled the Russian and Ukrainian language files by renaming them something that wouldn't load, then placed copies of the English language file into the Russian and Ukrainian locale sub-folders as well as leaving the English file in the original pre-existing English locale location (so no other language could possibly load) and voila (!), English, not perfect but very workable.

I also subsequently located a setting for English in the preferences settings  and set it to English.- see photo for reference.

I think the 1st page of this thread stating (Russian only) would tend to give the impression that there isn't an English language option, so my suggestion is to edit the Opera 12.18_45 entry to include the fact that there is an English language option.

Hello,

I am interested in this version of Opera but I am a bit confused.

1) How do we implement the certificates? I am unable to read the notepad file.

2) Is it possible to change the language back to English?

Thank you!

I do not use that old browser, but authentication of certificates requires TLS 1.2. This old Opera post looks like it might be helpful: https://forums.opera.com/topic/9630/opera-12-17-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-settings-not-persistent

Follow the images

Then restart the browser. It should be on English now (some stuff will remain in Russian, I guess those are the modified parts).

As for a download link for Opera 12.18, this one seems to work (original version) --> https://archive.org/details/opera1218
