VMware Workstation 16 on Win7

Hi, if anyone is interested, I got VMware Player 16.0 "official" release working on Windows 7.

Download: http://69.112.236.57/nextcloud/index.php/s/RWKwBkLoFPdWz93

This is still largely untested, especially the VMware installer is flaky, but VMware itself works very well on my main Win7.
You're supposed to reboot right after the installation and then put contents of vmware16_win7 folder in VMware\VMware Player\x64.

The video:

Edit: Added the VMware Workstation installer. If license key registration fails, try to install VMware Workstation 15.x first, and then directly upgrade to 16.

Got a bit further by abandoning the plan of getting the installer working, and deciding to replace all VMware 15.5.6 files on a 7 install with 16.x files.

Looks like I will need some sort of Windows 7 extended kernel

Man, I thought this was day was long in the future... sad to see it coming up so soon...

On an unrelated note, glad to see there are other fellow W7+ users also part of the "Never Combine/Use small icons" club... welcome!

new version of vmware is out

16.1.0

can we installed it or it needs patching?

Going to see if I can disassemble the previous patch, and figure out what all was changed, then apply it to 16.1.0

Edit: NVM, the url already has patches for 16.1.0

Hi, its been a few months but I am having an issue.

I managed to get the UI installed and everything, but when booting up a VM I get this:

image.png.a1fb4e43f7ad50640c800b0b3a87ae59.png

I can tell it mentions that the vmx86.sys driver is out of date, but where am I supposed to update it?

Did you install 16.1 vmx on 16.0?

Not sure if this is relevant here as I'm using a much older version of VMWare Player but this week, for the first time in months, I had a Windows update prompt which was actually a new driver version for it.

Worth checking your Windows updates to see if that driver is available to you.
