All browser for Windows XP/Vista (always being updated)

Recommended Posts

Recently I have found some computers on which, due to their performance, no superior operating system can run. For all those who are in the same situation or who simply want to use Windows XP for nostalgia or on a VM, I leave you the list of all (or almost) the browsers you can install.

Updated (you can visit practically all the sites)

1) 360 CHROME BROWSER (Based on Chrome 78) https://browser.360.cn/ee/

2) Maxthon 5 (Based on Explorer with Chrome engine) https://www.maxthon.com/mx5/

3) New Moon (Based on PaleMoon/Firefox) http://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/search/label/browser

Updated (but all not sites working correctly)

4) K-Meleon Browser (Based on Explorer, some sites like WhatsApp Web and Google Meet don't work) http://kmeleonbrowser.org/download.php

5) MyPal (Based on PaleMoon 28x) https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal/releases

Not updated (famous browsers, not all sites working correctly)

6) Chrome 49 (The latest version for WinXP) https://www.slimjet.com/chrome/google-chrome-old-version.php

7) Chrome 33 (For processor without SSE2) https://www.hwupgrade.it/download/scarica/4939/15/

8) Firefox 52 (The latest version for WinXP) https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/it/

9) Opera (Not recommended) https://www.opera.com/en/download

Why was this posted in the Windows Vista forum? We have a more complete list in Last versions of software for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

It's sad that the only modern browsers that work on XP are Chinese spyware

Most of XP’s remaining users live in emerging markets, and the same is true for Vista and quite possibly Windows 7 as well. I haven’t tried 360 Extreme Explorer, but there is reportedly a Russian repacked version without the Chinese telemetry. Speaking of Russian, I have tried Yandex 17, which is modern enough to cope with YouTube’s Polymer v.2 among other advantages.

I'll be testing the browsers shortly and adding them to the list. Thanks for the contribution.

Yes, now unfortunately XP has its days numbered in the browser theme. Vista will still hold up I think two years with the Kernel Extended.

I was wrong to create it here ... I tried to delete it but without success so I think I will keep it.

I think that XP x64 can have most of the Vista kernel extension work ported to it. Many ntdll functions that have remained the same between Vista and 7 x64 are also identical in XP x64! And no system files have authenticode digital signatures attached to them so it would actually be easier. But I don't think it would be worth it unless you could get WDDM and UEFI working as well as in Vista.

At least Vista has been added to this thread’s title now. It is still possible to download Chrome 49 x86 directly from Google, but your third-party link might be needed for an x64 version.

Browsers for vanilla Vista but not XP:

1) Internet Explorer 9 (The last major browser to support Windows 6.0, but the support is of limited use because the browser is obsolete.)

2) Pale Moon 27 (Official builds did not support XP, but roytam1 came to the rescue. The x64 version had video issues on Vista, so those running Vista x64 had good reason to try roytam1’s build, which still receives occasional patching.)

3) Slimjet 12 (Not a recommendation, just a fact.)

I believe there might be a few others, but I don’t use XP myself.

5) MyPal (Based on older Firefox releases) https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal/releases

I think you're mistaken mate. MyPal is an XP-compatible rebuild of Pale Moon 28.x by a forum user, same as RoyTam1's New Moon. It isn't based on any version of Firefox. They forked off from Tyhco/Gecko and created UXP/Goanna quite a few years ago. Its UI and use of XUL is similar in operation to 4-28x era Stratum Firefox though

(also you're using the Vista board, which has an ongoing extended kernel project which is bringing some more mainstream browsers to NT 6.0)

See:

Oh, I checked and you're right. I don't know where I got Firefox from, thanks a lot for reporting.

Well, it is still Firefox based, because UXP is based off of Firefox 52.6.0 ESR.

I just don't understand why both of the updated XP browsers are based off of an engine that's only really good for email clients and embedded browsers. Pale Moon is kinda trash when it comes to a main browser.

It is sad but it is so. As the main browser on XP I use 360 Chrome Browser, which being based on a modern version of Chrome (78) can do almost everything that can be done with an updated Chrome. The problem is that it's a bit heavy, as a lightweight browser I find the best one that offers compatibility with almost all sites is NewMoon.

Loosely. 52 was the fork-off point, but it isn't a carbon copy of 52x. It doesn't even have the same GUID. It gets recent javascript and DOM updates too, albeit more slowly. http://www.palemoon.org/unstable/releasenotes.shtml image.thumb.png.50643feca24b48cb3c2209b202675455.png

But yeah, there's a lot of shared ancestry.

Chrome is trash. Firefox is now following said trash. Pale Moon is the last, best hope... (If only they weren't such an arrogant bunch...)

There's always room for improvement. I don't like some of the decisions the PM team have made, but they're far ahead of the other "main" choices.

Was just throwing out an opinion, since everyone else was doing so...lol
