dencorso
FTW, @WildBill's PETool is here: ...and @blackwingcat's PE Maker is on his blog, at this page. @Dibya is right about both: they really are quite useful.

From your claims, I can see you really have an in-depth knowledge about the subject. Looking forward to your perfect patch. It's good to have alternatives. As long as we respect and don't copy each other's work, it's all good! Man do you have a disk greater than 2.2TB ? I have a experimental disk patch that can even unlock GPT in XP. As you love experimenting with hardware so I am asking .

I have not had any BSOD with the brazilian patch @daniel_k although with my current ASUS mainboard it only works with the 4GB string. I have tested the ''ALL'' string with another ASUS board and it works just fine thus I think the russian patch is based on the ALL string too. so if you ever release your own patch think on that, some hardware may not support over 4GB of RAM. What is the 1, what is the 3 , what (the heck) do you mean by "mix up the kernel"? jaclaz ok. sorry. I want to use at once the 4GB PAE and a custom boot screen created with TuneUp utility. (it's pretty simple) the bottom line (3) is the original 4GB PAE @daniel_k as you can see TuneUp creates its own kernel file (Kernel=TUKernel.exe) and set aside the 4GB kernel as backup (KERNEL=ntkrpae.exe) once I restart Windows I can only see 3GB of RAM it seems like TuneUp makes use of the original NTOSKRNL file to create it's own kernel file = TUKernel. I have tried to replace the NTOSKRNL file for NTKRPAE file but renaming it as NTOSKRNL the problem is that Windows immediately restores the origial kernel file so this trick won't work
jaclaz
Besides it being IMNSHO opinion a perfect example of "looking for troubles" (actually "senselessly looking for troubles"), if we generalize the question to "How can I replace a "system" file which is protected by WFP (Windows File Protection) sometimes called "SFC"?", then the answer is "You shouldn't and you cannot (according by Microsoft)." BUT, there are a couple good ol' tricks possible making use of a "hacked" SFC.DLL or (IMHO simpler/cleaner) an empty SFCFILES.DLL: https://web.archive.org/web/20110719154642/http://www.vorck.com/windows/software.html Will either method work for a kernel file? Who knows? Try and see, but be warned that it is entirely possible that the system will be botched, so have handy a TESTED recovery/restore solution for the OS. I would rather check if - by any chance - in your TuneUp program (whatever it is) the path and/or name of the "source" kernel is hardcoded and hexedit it to point to the 4 GB patched kernel. As a side note, IF the question is a different one, i.e. "How to change XP boot screen?" then there are different answers, possibly around here: http://reboot.pro/topic/291-winbuilder-051-beta-4/page-3#entry2585 http://reboot.pro/topic/339-boot-logo-for-winbuilders-pe-build-post-ideas-here/ or maybe try another tool that works differently (and at least in theory "better"): Start looking for it around here: https://web.archive.org/web/20060715224654/http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/ (to have an idea of the story behind it) Then, this is current: https://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/downloads.asp jaclaz Edited January 15, 2020 by jaclaz

I have no idea as to where the bitmap of TU kernel is getting stored. what is the difference between 1033 and 3082 ? When I launch the TU kernel I get to see the second picture below but only 3GB of RAM I can send you the TU kernel if you want to check it out by yourself....
