Thanks.

How is omni.ja compressed when building NM? Last time i tried with 7-zip, but it didn't work. Also, i get errors when extracting.

It's a .zip with a fancy name, or at least that's how it is for modern Firefox

I know this, but .zip isn't specific enough to reproduce the same file.

Try it yourself - modify one of the files inside and repack it so the browser still works. The result depends on the tool used.

I've done omni.ja mods before using the method

The latest version Arctic fox 27.11 doesn't work anymore on rutube, I confirm in my last post that the Arctic fox browser works with the rutube website but without its video player, because I use an external video player . A new Arctic fox 27.11 version is coming and hop ... for the new year 2021 Rutube disappears from the screens of the arctic fox  browser as on the New moon browser 27.9.7 of Roytam1 . it's called an involution. You have to have a strong mind not to get paranoid...:ph34r:

Happy New Year to everyone.:hello:

If the EXTRACT-error says something like "there was more stuff after payload data" (or some such), that's probably harmless. If I understood the forums correctly, that's only speed related: younger zip versions can include instructions to extract the zipped content files in a specific order, most important ones first, to speed up unzipping. Or some such... But in older versions no real prob, no files are lost, just maybe unzips a bit slower.

But if possible, update old 7-zip to a newer version.

HOWTO edit files inside a zipped file without unzipping:

Just for testing, please try if your 7zip works this **exact** way?
It does on my truly ancient system, and using old 7z v15.11

- make sure your Notepad/Editor is CLOSED completely
- Open omni.ja in 7z own FileManager
(doubleclick / or right-click omni.ja and "open" with 7zip, or start 7zFM.exe and find it)
- find the internal file to edit, right-click on it to "Edit" (F4)
(or if filetype registered, just open normally by doubleclick)
- IMPORTANT: only this 1 TAB open in Notepad editor!
- IMPORTANT: after editing, do **NOT SAVE** manually!
- CLOSE the whole editor WINDOW (not just the tab) with the X in upper right WINDOW corner
- 7zip should NOW automatically ask to SAVE that file or not? => YES
- After confirm, it should also automatically ask to SAVE that zipped file or not? => YES

If 7zip shows an error that it couldn't save, that the file were "already opened in another program":
ignore it, CLOSE 7z and Notepad completely again, read above instruction closely again, and start AGAIN.
.

// fix translation menu item
pref("browser.translation.service", "chrome://navigator-region/locale/region.properties");
pref("browser.translation.serviceDomain", "chrome://navigator-region/locale/region.properties");//@line 12 "c:\devel\mailnews-uxp\navigator\app\defaults\pref\application.js"

:thumbup

In the new menu "Customize..." no way to resize icons.
Copy file: chrome\toolkit\content\global\ customizeToolbar.xul
Paste(Replace): chrome\navigator\content\navigator\toolbar\ customizeToolbar.xul

I don’t know whether it’s right or not, but everything is working properly.

Wanted to say thanks again to Roytam1. Your work is very much appreciated!

Past months several of the addresses I regularly visit upgraded their websites, making even the browser releases from around 2019 crap out! Looking for the fastest or most responsive browser releases thus became a moot point, only Roytam1's more recent builds are now practically usable for me.

Forum software update.
The buttons still look fine in Firefox 52.9 ESR FWIW.
The new forum layout settings are still being worked on, so the problem may go away.
If it doesn't, please officially report it.

<semiOT>

The new forum layout caused real havoc to me... :realmad:

1. The "primary" and "secondary" colour settings (in "Colour Picker") are no longer stored in cookies:angry:
My personal preference was Marble (not the forum default) for both, and then I would protect these cookies
with a specialised cookie extension, so that everytime I logged-in, those custom colour settings of mine
would stick...

2. The newly instituted "sibebar" unnecessarily takes up horizontal screen space and the new "Customizer"
wizard only allows for displaying it on the right (default) or left side of the page :angry: ...

I ended up removing it altogether via uBlock Origin:

msfn.org##.ipsLayout_sidebarright

3. We no longer have "Theme" choices, my preferred "IPS default" theme has vanished,
while the only one available theme currently is a poor relative of the former default, "Swift"...

4. In Chromium based browsers, basically 360EE, the Dark Reader Chrome extension no longer yields
the excellent dark result
 it used to with the previous MSFN Forum iteration... :(

5. The new layout is largely unusable in older browser engines, e.g., as posted already,
in Tycho-based browsers like NM27 (Goanna 3 based KM should also be affected, can people check?) :( .

Not only the "reaction" button is just a huge grey circle there:

uJ2qftt.jpg

but now the Edit (post) button has been hidden inside a post header ellipsis (...) button,
that doesn't work at all in Tycho :realmad: !

To add insult to injury, to sign-out in NM27 I have to delete MSFN cookies, because
the <myusername> button does not respond to clicks:realmad:

If it was up to me, I would revert the layout changes without second thoughts...
But perhaps it's just my middle age revolting against any type of change... :whistle:

If I had to guess, the new IPS forum software is specifically "improved" for the teen-aged users
on the latest model of their hyped, touch-screen, mobile device, whereas on desktop devices,
basic compatibilty with recent Chromium is all the IPS devs cared for...

EDIT: And I just freakin' hate the fact that e-mail notifications now only display a truncated version of the post they refer to,

FyPD4tv.jpg

whereas in the previous forum software ALL the relevant post was included in the body of the e-mail
VERY convenient for when the forums go off-line for days (has happened in the past) or for archiving/recovering
content when, God forbid, the forum's huge database gets corrupted and months' worth of users' posted content
gets forever lost :( (has already happened once during the time I'm a member here... )

Nobody asked for MSFN to downgrade to the latest Invision Community Software, the old software was objectively better, worked with older browsers, and now I'm really curious to see how IPS Default looked, because I never saw the option to switch to it before.

Forum CSS Downgrade:
Fully agree, but am shocked to read that even in semi-modern browsers (seen from my far down end) it's such a disaster!

But I have the impression there's only 1 person who's deciding this, and have never seen him anywhere around those topics here. Anyone split and move the reactions to here?
https://msfn.org/board/forum/23-site-amp-forum-issues/

for selfhelpers: to get at least the Report/Share/EDIT links visible:

in KM74/PM26, this helps perhaps a bit (not pretty, just visible) on hover:
ul.ipsComment_tools ul.ipsHide:hover,
a.ipsComment_ellipsis:hover + ul.ipsHide{
display: inline-block !important;
position: static !important;
}
(but not sure, KM74 only tested logged out)

Alternative for KM1.6 (FF3.5) and perhapsKM74/PM26 too:
Links permanently visible, not just on hover:

ul.ipsComment_tools a.ipsComment_ellipsis{
position: static !important;
margin-left: 500px !important; (this line NOT for KM74-etc)
}
ul.ipsComment_tools ul.ipsHide {
display: inline-block !important;
overflow: visible !important;
position: static !important;
}
ul.ipsComment_tools ul.ipsHide li {display: table-cell !important;}
ul.ipsComment_tools ul.ipsHide li a{padding: 0px 12px !important;}

And of course, the worst and last workaround if nothing else helps:
Disable all page styles (in KM with macro stylekiller, in others somewhere in View... Page Styles...)
Looks absolutely horrible, but more stuff visible...
