bp72
ok.. here is the deal. My hard drive crashed. So i have been working from girlfriend's computer. I tried installing some cd burning software to her computer that i have on my computer (that is dead) so i could use her burner. She didnt have anything installed to burn but the cds worked.I installed Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4. Once installed i was given a error saying to go to the site for a update as it wont work on this version of windows (i run 2000, she runs XP). Well no driver update on the site. Then xp gave me a error saying i had bad drivers. So i removed them and didnt think about it. To make a long story short her CD drives wont work anymore. I tried a uninstall and reinstall but that doesnt work. I have searched the web for days and cant find a driver at all. Please someone point me in the right direction.. The devices are...Compaq sc-1405IDE-cd R/RW 4x4x24They were working before.. So there has to be a solution. Dont care if they burn anymore. Just need them to work. PLEASE HELPthank you for your time in advance.
maxXPsoft
Latest version of Roxio drivers that work on XP are Updates Easy CD Creator 5.x.x Basic and Starter Kit to 5.3.5 May 13, 2003 = http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/ecdc_...xp_updt53.jhtmlYou have to log in for that.Might also need the DriveUp5.3.1a.exe - look around that site for that.As far as the CD just working try reboot in safe mode = F8 as it gets past BIOS select Safe Mode, uninstall there and reboot and see if it pick's it up.Compaq Drivers - http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/
XtremeMaC
i'd go with nero (www.nero.com)roxio in my opinion sucks!they don't even have a demo product!instead of downloading updating updating updatingjust dl nero 6. save a hassle.30 day trial.. then u can just gladly buy it! they've great support and update their products often...if your hdd crashed grab some recovery programs and recover the data if u need to...(thats of course if u lost any data, but judging from u wanting to backup your stuff i think u don't need it...) FthrJACK
Roxio is quite good, i used to use it a lot. but that version really does blow! and as you found out.. V5 and below tends to cause a lot of problems with XP, stops it shutting down properly and other things.
vasilis
version 6 of both nero and roxio are equally good.
maxXPsoft
Yes but don't install both Roxio and Nero together.I was just pointing out Easy CD Creator 4 doesn't fare too well in XP.I remember reading something about a problem if you did install ver 4 with XP. Ver 5.1 and above is Ok. Everyone does know that Roxio is what XP uses for its sucky internal.Too each their ownbp72 check these out see if thats whats upDisappearing CD-RW - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q314060http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;315345http://www22.brinkster.com/moncom/moncomcd...p?topictoview=4http://www.memorexlive.com/support/custom_...k_fix_guide.pdfBTW - If the drive just won't boot up you can try installing it as a slave to a working PC and try recover your stuff.
