On decommissioning of update servers for 2000, XP, (and Vista?) as of July 2019

Recommended Posts

Good evening, does anyone know if you are running windows 2000 professional with sp4 integrated, of course? It is with all the updates and I do not run the windows update mini tool with anything.

I tested update search from RTM, and it works too. I'm impressed

Do you see the picture this time?

Good morning, how did you do that? Give detailed steps because I am also interested.

I discovered something that maybe could be useful!

There is a website called theoldnet.com

There you put an url and select the year. When you press go button, you see how was seen that page in the selected year. It takes linc from waiback machine and probably other stuffs, because it managed to archive old website megaupload.com which apparently don't exists on waiback machine. I made an experiment, i put there the linc of Windows update v6 (extracted directly from Windows XP and IE 8), and here is the final url when I selected the year 2010. Here is the final linc!

http://theoldnet.com/get?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.update.microsoft.com%2Fwindowsupdate%2Fv6%2Fdefault.aspx%3Fln%3Des&year=2010&scripts=false&decode=false

Maybe it's not very useful for Windows XP but it maybe could be useful for Windows 9x/2k/nt if anyone needs to reconstruct Windows Update.

Interesting stuff thanks, but that URL just produces a blank white screen for me on Firefox 52.9ESR.

Kaspersky Internet Security labels the MSFN notification e-mail with that link as SPAM, trying to open said link in latest Serpent, it is blocked by KIS cloud protection (as being a Phishing site) :

Probably a false positive, but... :dubbio:

Guys, I have good news : A solution has been found to make XP and server 2003 compatible with SHA-2 updates!  Special thanks to daniel_k and abbodi1406 on Mydigitalife for the work :https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-update-for-2000-xp-2003-and-vista-is-die-august-2020.82143/page-5

Some registry hacks and patched wuaugen.dll and voilà!

A 7zip file contains all necessary files :

New method found ! Thanks to abbodi1406 :thumbup https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-windows-xp-server-2003.82538/page-3#post-1628508

/!\ Restricted to french IPs

Or if your're lazy, you can use my proxy that I have made available to everyone : http://wsus.update-old-wins.fr.nf

It should be specified in gpedit.msc  :

Computer configuration > Administrative templates > Windows components > Windows update > Specify intranet Microsoft update service location, and enter in the two fields : http://wsus.update-old-wins.fr.nf/?

In this case a simple update of WUA to 7.4.7600.226 or 7.6.7600.256 is required.

This proxy also restore the updates for Windows 2000! It just need two requirements :

-double update of WUA :

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

http://download.windowsupdate.com/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe

-Root certificates : http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/rootsupd_a153023b66d29034420aa227ccc2164cff75229e.exe

You should also add the Specify intranet Microsoft update service location GPO in gpedit, for this : right click on Adminisitrative template : Add/remove template > add wuau.adm The Windows update section should be appear in the list.

Finally, scan with WUMT.

When I tried to run it in Windows Vista SP2 64-bit , i get a error.

If you open the site in a browser, then it gives an error: This proxy is limited to French IP addresses.

Apparently you need to look for a proxy located in France.

I restricted the proxy for a good reason : it doesn't work outside from France (see Dave-H experience). Maybe Microsoft put geo-restrictions by some way (language installed?) like for activation of certain specific editions of Windows.

So please, install your own.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
