On decommissioning of update servers for 2000, XP, (and Vista?) as of July 2019

Hi!

I have a Windows XP machine. I did all the steps mentionned in the guide (by @AstroSkipper), but I get now the error 0x80244004. I copied the patched wuaueng.dll, but no popup from Windows File Protection, nothing. I really need to update this computer. I copied the wuaueng.dll file from Restore_WU_XP_2003 to c:\winnt\system32 and c:\winnt\system32\dllcache (I upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP, that's why it's written WINNT). Can anyone help me please?

2022Aomei, Macrium or Acronis for newer ones if something is going wrong or you have to revert back. Hope we'll get ahead.

Sort of:

Acronis was the very best investment I even purchased back in 2011. I just used it today in fact. I partition my hard drive and always back up to that partition so when my C: installation becomes unstable (usually due to the operator error ... :))  I sometimes can't even restart, so, today (I promise this is fact) I went to shutdown after Rogue Killer decided (for me) that my system was corrupt, I knew things were sour when it took forever to even attempt to restart and would not. Luckily I didn't have hold the power button (that is so bad for the equipment) I was able to get to the task manager with control alt delete and there at the top was restart and I was relieved as I just pressed F12 to boot to DVD ( I have the Acronis 2012 DVD ) and booted up and restored my backup from the E Partition (D is the cd) and it takes no more than 15 minuets (give or take) and YAY ... I'm back up. I keep my backups on Flash drives and have several points when I consider worth restoring back to, but I don't even backup new unless I make significant changes.

Watch out with Rogue Killer, folks, as it deleted system files.

Gosh, I'd hope everyone would consider imaging and cloning their hard drive, because even system restore has left me 'high and dry' when things go wrong.

I have Windows system restore disabled completely long time ago. It's crap and a resource consumer at its best! Imaging by using a proper software is the very best way to be on the safe side!

Hello all,

There is good news! @ward201185 on MDL has managed to get ProxhttpsProxy v1.3a running on Win 2000! This requires Python and the Python version of ProxhttpsProxy. I will create a tutorial for this soon. It works perfectly in combination with Windows Update v5:

Hi, in case you haven't been able to resolve this problem, I had the same error and found that I hadn't applied the registry edits in Install.cmd (from an all-in-one Windows Update fix zip file):

reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Test /v AllowAnySSL /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Test /v WuRedirTestEnable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Test /v WuRedirOverride1 /t REG_SZ /d http://ds.download.windowsupdate.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Test /v WuRedirOverride2 /t REG_SZ /d http://download.microsoft.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Test /v WuRedirOverride3 /t REG_SZ /d http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab /f > NUL
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v SecureProtocols /t REG_DWORD /d 0xA8 /f > NUL

Once I had added these the problem went away.

Matt.

Hello all,
Here is a tutorial on how to run ProxhttpsProxy v1.3a on Windows 2000.

First you need to have Visual c++ 2008 installed. Then download Python 3.4.3 but make sure that you don't have "Pip" selected for installation, otherwise it will fail. When you have everything installed, download "Python fix" and run the fix according to the readme description. Finally, you just need to download ProxhttpsProxy, save the certificate in the root certificate store in the local computer and run the batch file "start proxy". Done!

Have fun trying

My Vista is already Rtm. See here:

Edit: This is a fresh install, not my main Vista laptop

Download wuweb.dll here: https://download.zip.dll-files.com/c31dce575ee43cfe5ee1bd1b5fb29a8d/wuweb.zip?token=lSKi8NX_M08apicpdMDapw&expires=1663744042 and register it under system32. If you have x64, then under syswow64. Then you have to replace wuaueng.dll, but first you have to change the access permission. Then add the registry entries.

Hello, now I get the error number 0XC00042D...

It was working 2 days ago, and now it doesn't Work...

I have all patches installed, and Proxhttpsproxy running.

It sent 3 requests to client.asmx and then stopped, with a message from the proxy "connection closed" or something like that.

This happens in Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
